Commercial Kayaks No Longer Welcome at Makena Landing

By
Real Estate Agent with eXp Realty HAWAII RS-63652

View From Maluaka to Makena LandingBeginning on September 1, 2008 the Maui County Parks and Recreation Department is revoking commercial ocean recreation permits at Makena Landing and at Maluaka north and south beach parks. Makena Landing is a popular Kayak launching spot that is very active in the mornings.  Up to 18 dive and kayak companies have launched their tours from here for years. Public access is protected, however, after September 1 commercial operators will no longer be allowed. This is good news for the neighbors, who will no longer have to deal with buses dropping off hoards of people every morning.

Just above Makena Landing a new subdivision being developed that has recently received final subdivision approval. Papa'anui will feature 7 1/2 acre plus lots directly overlooking Makena Landing. Hi Scott!  I'm glad they are clamping down on the commercial tours - I think it was getting out of hand.

Interesting that they can block anyone from using the beach. Do they have special launch places for the businesses now? By the way congrats on your one year anniversary in the rain.
