The magic and science behind log homes

By
Services for Real Estate Pros with The Webunet Group

Hello all and welcome to my first posting on this "Log Home Blog".  In the spirit of providing helpful information and tools you can use... here's today's offering:

You may have a client that is considering building a log home on property you are listing and being able to provide professional advice is always helpful.  If the client has not yet chosen a log home manufacturer, feel comfortable in recommending they begin their search for manufacturers or builders on the Log Home Directory.  We list every major company in the log home industry and provide a one-stop-shop for all aspects of buying or building a log home or timber frame home.

Additionally, our other site, Loghomeology will help you and your client understand the strange terms and definitions associated with log homes.  As an example, one of the first questions they will need to answer is, "Which type of log corner do you prefer"? Do you want Dovetail, Swedish Cope, Saddlenotch or Butt and Pass corners?  Understanding these terms will make everyone's job easier.

If you want to stay current with news and information about what's happening in the log home industry and related topics, please visit my main Log Home bLog and be sure to sign up to the RSS feed!

Thank you.  We are a somewhat large "log home" market here in the "boonies of PA".

Is a Lindal Cedar Home considered a type of log home?  I am getting readt to list one for sale and want to be sure I am marketing in all possible places.  Your site looks as if it would be very helpful---I did not find Lindal listed there.

This is cool...I really want to do one.  My brother built one that was featured in a national log home magazine.  I want to build one on Lake Michigan....it'd be fun.

Thanks to all of you who took the time to welcome me to your community.  Sorry I've been unresponsive but I had some login issues to resolve.

Pat Haddad asked if a"Lindal Cedar Home is considered a type of log home"?  Not pure log, but a heavy timber style of home using post and beam construction.  This is sometimes referred to as timber frame, but true timber frame utilizes no hardware, and relies on mortise and tenon joinery with wooden pegs as fasteners.  Some people lump all these styles/methods together because they fall outside conventional 'stick built' homes and utilize heavy timbers.

Hi Tom,  welcome to blogging at ActiveRain.  I always wanted a log home, and still hold out a small hope for one, maybe up in Canada one day.  Glad to know you have a very useful site.
