About two years ago, Margaret Rome started raving about this place for real estate people called Active Rain. She was online night and day, hopping from blog to blog, leaving comments, and adding blogs of her own. I heard about Broker Bryant and some clever guys named Matt and Jonathan. So I joined. And once in a while, I wrote an article and put it on my blog. But with only 5,123 points after all this time, you can see I haven't been back much, even though I did get a chance to meet a flat fellow named Caleb one time.
Then I yesterday I saw the announcement…Active Rain had 100,000 members! Incredible! This site is only a little over two years old. All they do is provide a forum for people to connect and share information…what's the big deal?
Community. Connections. Conversation. Genuine and generous sharing. All those things that make human interactions work. Ahhh….now I understand what those geniuses in Bellevue saw as the potential of a network for some of the most outgoing, talkative, and competitive professionals you will ever find.
Margaret Mead I'm sure had something different in mind when she said that famous line, "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has." But when you look at Active Rain today, you see what a growing group of active, thoughtful people can create that benefits their clients, the general public, and themselves. And, they have a lot of fun doing it!
Congratulations to everyone in Bellevue and all the Rainers. It's an extraordinary accomplishment. More, it has renewed my determination to spend more time and effort being part of this community and contribute however I can. Thanks for reminding me how much impact a dedicated group of caring people can have.
