MeMe ... DoDo YouYou ReallyReally WantWant ToTo KnowKnow?

By
Real Estate Agent with THE PODGURSKY GROUP @ Re/Max Direct

So I'm actually very tempted to double up ALL the words in this post :)

Jeff Belonger tagged me so in the proper chain-letter fashion - which I NEVER EVER respond to (and my house didn't explode and a tree didn't fall across my car and the sky has yet to fall)...but I'll do this just for some fun!

I guess he's picking on me because he claims to be a big non-bully... I'm 6'-1" and about 250 so I can probably handle him even with his height advantage...

Oh .... and we both grew up in Louisville, KY...

So... that being said...

  1) I am from Louisville, KY... that is NOT pronounced Loo-EE-Vill... nor Loo-Iss-Vill... it is pronounced LOO-AH-VULL... I am pure Louisville as well... I love the city and I take pride in being from there and all its accomplishments.  Also, like so many other Louisvillians (Loo-Ah-vill-Ee-uns) I go almost every year to the Kentucky OAKS... but I have NEVER been to the Kentucky Derby.  The Oaks is the day before - usually the first Friday in May.  It is a spectacular event that brings somewhere around 150,000 to Churchill Downs for a few special big-purse events.  The Oaks is the biggest race in all of Throroughbred Racing for 2 year old horses... the DERBY is the first SATURDAY in May and is for 3 year olds.   How could a real pure-bred never go to the Derby itself?? Simple... it draws 200,000+ and real Louisvillians are home in front of the big screen drinking bourbon and enjoying the lack of traffic!!  We let all the touristas deal with the traffic and sunburn.  Usually it is a rite of passage to go to the Infield... but I went there for Oaks just to stroll through and check out the crazies.  I love my bourbon!

 2) I am actually a very creative person.  Ines might know that already though.  Outside of my creative mortgage and real estate mind, I have a very artsy side.  I guess the art I took to most after High School was cooking.  I fancied myself a pretty good gourmet.  I travelled one summer and ended up in London (among other places) and sat in on a class at the Cordon Bleu there.  It was amazing and I almost enrolled that minute.  I actually cooked with my mom when I was young.  When I got into high school for some reason I thought it was cooler to make very little money at my family friend's deli rather than making much more money drafting and doing mortgage inspections for my father's land surveying business... on the 3rd week I became the permanent breakfast cook and made some mean waffles, challah french toast and my omelettes were fantastic.  I actually love being cheesy just for the reaction and used "I make great eggs" (a giggity giggity!) a few times w/the ladies.  I then worked as the afternoon cook for a gourmet to go restaurant owned by a James Beard winning Chef... In college I was a member of a student organization and pretty much cooked all their meals - my first big challenge was a barbecue for 200.   So...

 3) My weight is obviously higher because I eat a lot which would be part of the reason I married a 4 star chef.  My wife Katie is a classically trained Chef de Garde Manger - meaning she's mean with a knife... and she was executive sous chef for a restaurant down here at age 21 and her skills got the restaurant 4 stars so they travel with HER not the restaurant.  She is currently a private chef and caterer and really spends more time catering to me and our son than to everyone else.  The funny thing is that all the fancy training she got at Florida Culinary Academy didn't prepare her for the fact that we're both very rustic eaters... we can eat roasted chicken, cauliflower or broccoli and baked potatoes EVERY DAY And never get sick of them!  She learned French sauces and Chinese wok techniques (was offered a job opening a restaurant for Martin Yan in Singapore) and German pastry (was offered a scholarship at the worlds best pastry in the world)...

 4) My Dogs are very important to me.  I have sort of gotten both without planning.  Nalah is almost 6 and she is our little Lhasa Apso.  Lhasa's are men's dogs and very loyal... Nalah, like all Lhasas follows me everywhere and sits at my feet even when I would prefer she didn't.  She is very sweet and great with my son.  She has her crafty side and we have yet to create a barricade that she cannot scale.  Lhasas are from Tibet and are seen in art as little Lions... their name means Lion Dog.  So.. we named her Nalah after the Lioness in The Lion King.  Nalah was supposed to be my mother-in-law's dog but she had to travel for a few months after my wife and her sister got her and then when Katie moved to Louisville to be with me, she brought Nalah with her and she instantly became mine. Harvey... full name is Harvey Fierstein Podgursky... was a gift.  He was supposed to be for Katie from her sister... but he's such a guy dog.  He is a 78 pound! Olde English Bulldog.... and yes he burps and farts and snores and drools.  He sits on a comfy chair next to my desk pretty much full time.  His hobbies include burping, farting and snoring while I'm trying to talk on the phone and then either I'm sickened by his smells or I can't hear from the sounds.  But I love him... and he's AWESOME and I will be a bulldog owner for the rest of my life even though Katie says I won't.  I'll just have to get another when she decides to leave me alone for a few days.  Next weekend we will be honoring our third dog together - she passed away March 25th, 2006 - Keesha was our Chocolate Lab.  Her spirit was amazing and so powerful.  So many people felt she healed them.  Her spirit lives with us and haunts us in a good way mostly.  We are constantly thinking of her... and when we do, one of the other dogs acts out of character and does something Keesha would have done.  For instance... Nalah NEVER ate off the floor.. but the baby throws something and we feel Keesha and then Nalah scrambles for it.  Harvey pretty much is a lazy dog... but now he's into garbage - something he never had the desire to do but Keesha would get into ANY garbage the minute we weren't looking - and sometimes when we were!  I miss Keesha.  Chocolate Labs are amazing animals.

 5) My son... Noah... he is absolutely the most perfect beautiful spirit ever to live.  He is my boy and I'm absolutely in love with him.  He's got the red hair I had when I was young... and he just does things in a way that makes everyone around him think he's a gift to all of us.  I've had friends of my mother in law come to me and say, "Don't get me wrong - I love my grandchild... but Noah... he's brilliant - he's amazing and so tuned in to me".

My mornings start as early as Noah's... I have gotten him up every morning of his life.  It is time I love.  I've been known to ignore the phone during that time because I just won't have that time back when he's older - but people can call me again or I can call back.  I also give him his baths every night.  I knew I would be in love with my children - but this child far surpasses even my greatest expectations.

So... there's 5 things...

6) since everyone else is doing it... I'm partially Omniscient.

So... I'm going to tag...

NICK M so we can get him to turn the camera around (who did one but didn't put it in the MeMe Group!)... Karen George who already did a bit of a Meme - but let's get 4 more out of her... Ines so we learn more about her ... Renee Burrows because she's always sending great condos and emails and her life already sounds interesting!... and another Louisville Boy - Benjamin Jenks... and since Nick M already did one, I'll tag Betsy Talbot with her new picture and longer hair!

David.... this was awesome.  Great job and with adding the pics. Why I picked you?  From Louisville, but I was reluctant because you bleed blue.  ;o)  2nd...  you are in the mortgage business also. And just for the fact that you challenge others at times in here. You have a stern outlook and perspective at times... not all the time, but I like it. It's needed at times. Last....  I wanted to get to know a little about you.

In regards to the Derby.... the infield is a must, even if you live in Ky. It's been compared to Woodstock at times. Not that I have ever been, but it's wild. I have been to the Oaks also. You are right, it's nice because it's not as crowded.

Sorry to hear about your dog Keesha. And I loved what you had to say about your son and how you spend time with him. Very cool and touching. But the hair thing... you had hair when you were younger?  LOL   Dude...  I shouldn't be talking because I am losing mine....  And that was a tease. Typically means that I like you as a person.

Last... thanks for the mention. I would like to add my most current meme from which I tagged you from. The MEME's are back.... My MEME part 2.....   Thanks for sharing this with us....

That is sooo great David - I had also been memmed back in December, like Nick and here's the LINK.  I don't think I can come up with other interesting stuff - If I do I will let you know.  You are a lucky dog marrying a chef!  That is the only thing my life is missing - I dream with having a personal chef.

David, this was fabulous!  All of it.  You obviously have your priorities straight in life.  Enjoy that son of yours.  They really do grow very quickly.  I'm so sorry about your Keesha.  We lost our little Pepper on Nov.19, 2006 and we miss her so much.  We now have Fifi and are falling in love again.  I knew I was right about you looking young!  I'm class of '79 so there!

" btw... I went to Ballard, Class of 91 - and you? - FYI to everyone else - in Louisville we all ask where the other went to High School as if it matters :)"

Ok, I'm another Louivillian - I went to Male, Class of '92. And you're right, for some reason, where you went to High School here is VERY important to people?  Who knows?!

David, no, no, not Junior High (that's what we call it up in NY where I attended).  High School of Art & Design in NYC was '79, then off to CUNY (Baruch College for a business major) where I got derailed and didn't quite finish...my whole point is that you're young.  OK, younger, than me.  I guess it's all relative, no?  To little Noah, you're ancient =)

David-It's nice to meet you! Chef for a wife, do you ever cook for her or does she rule the kitchen? And Noah what a beautiful boy.  They grow up quick, it's so nice to hear how you cherish him.  Red Hair!  Love it, my 2 brother's are redheaded.  Thanks for sharing this side of you with us.

Midori - I actually have cooked 2 nights in a row... been a fun treat.  Tonight was roasted chicken with potatoes and broccoflower... the other night was pork tenderloin with an apple-kimchi barbecue glaze, asparagus and roasted potatoes.... :) :)

And you all thought I just do Mortgages in Lake Worth!

Maggie... 33 :) I've got some white hairs poking through... and my wife is 6 yrs younger than I am so I feel old sometimes... To Noah I'm more than ancient :)

Kelly... that's Jefferson County School System at work! har har (it is actually a great school system)... Hooked on Phonics!

Jeff... sounds like that old high school line... "I dated a girl from Louisville, you wouldn't know her" ;)... and yes I go back twice a year - first weekend in May (hint hint) and then one other time.

Hey David,

Nice post. I'll be honest I am not that good of a cook. But I married a great cook. He cooks Southern Italian, Indian, Persian. And it is fabulsooooo.

So, do you have that great southern accent like those people from that Movie with Kirsten Dunst about Louisvillee? I absolutely love that speech.

Elizabethtown...I dated a girl from there once.   Very strange city... cute but strange

I only pick up a little accent when I'm tired or when I've been there too long.  Going back in May for almost a week so I'll have it then!

Persian food is great...

I liked that movie as well... heartwarming...
