Localism VS ActiveRain...And the Winner is?

Tug of War

I had some time this morning to actually look at the back-end data on my own blog and was totally surprised at the trends I found regarding Referred Browser Hits.

For comparison,  Here is what I found:

Overall:

  • Since I created my own blog over a year ago, ActiveRain  has represented 74.1% of my referers
  • During this same period, Localism was only 9.2%

Last Three Pages of my results:

July 10 - 12

  • Active Rain = 65%
  • Localism = 5%

July 13 - 15

  • ActiveRain  = 70%
  • Localism = 15%

July 16 - 27

  • ActiveRain = 35%
  • Localism = 50%

I would say this is pretty substantial evidence that Localism is already making a significant impact on my blog traffic since it went "live".  I, for one, am now a believer.  Now matter what anyone on AR writes...numbers like these don't lie/embellish/rant or even distort.  This is the best evidence I could have to inspire me to be there on Thursday at noon.

*Please note:  NO ONE from AR asked or even knew about this post...I'm just sharing the facts!

9/21/08 Update:  I have gotten several requests for an update on my statistics.  The most recents state:

AR:  33 hits, Localism 21 hits (This is the past week or so)

It is worth noting that the AR hits appear in blocks and many times it looks like one person has gone back and forth from AR to my blog 3-5 times.  Taking that into consideration I think they are about 50-50.

Thanks so much for a non-biased report over the "tug of war" - live your graphic, too.  Localism.com is geared to the public, while we can learn form each other, we realtors are in this business because we love it and love meeeting poeple and what a great way for the comsumers to get to know us through our posts on localism.

That is a big difference in a short amount of time.  I have always had more traffic and referrals from Active Rain.  I'm eagar to see how this all plays out.

Spokane Washington Real Estate Expert As with any tool Ithink that Localism will get more hits the new way, but that doesn't change some very bad downsides. Like the people who had top spots in the old localism now will not be the top agent but the purchased expertcan be higher on the page. Also it takes away from the concept of the points system rewarding the people doing the most contributing.

Fact is it turns the points into nothing more than a trophy among other Realtors when the real benefit would be as localism got bigger your top spot to the public would be a big reward. Now it doesn't matter. This new localism system is undermining one of the key successes of AR.

What are you guys doing on Localism.com that you are receiving all of these leads? I am new to this and would appreciate the advice in maximising the system.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Diane,

Quick question.  Is Localism staying strong for you?

Respectfully,

Interesting. I've found AR has always been in the lead. I hope the new Localism makes a difference for us all, especially since I have invested in the future.

Castellum Realty:  I just wrote a brief update above.  ActiveRain is sending me more hits than Localism but if you account for them sometimes being the same reader I would say in the past week they were about 50/50
