THE CASE FOR LEAVING A BUSINESS CARD AT ALL SHOWINGS!

By
Real Estate Agent with Keller Williams Realty of Jupiter

WHY IT PAYS TO ALWAYS LEAVE A BUSINESS CARD!!

I first showed a particular vacant property about six weeks ago and left a business card in the bowl provided.  I visited this property several times since.  I went back to check on something for a client, take picture of the view for an out of state client, showed it to another client 2X and then went back with the original client and put in an offer last Friday.  EACH VISIT I PUT A BUSINESS CARD IN THE BOWL, along with a few other agents' cards.

Several days ago I received a phone call from the neighbor who watches the vacant property for the out of state seller.  Guess what?  She found my many BUSINESS CARDS in the bowl and took one for herself.  She told me that she was looking for a realtor who works in the area and who can bring clients.  WOW!!  All from a few business cards.  Well, I'm on my way to selling this property as quickly as possible.

Your business card says a lot about YOU!!  DON'T LEAVE HOME WITHOUT IT!!

I use www.BestBusinessCards.com and no I don't work for them.  I'm not with Proctor either, why does he say to do this?  These cards are more expensive (at least the ones I get) and I have had so many compliments on them from everyone.  I also put a tip chart on the back (at no extra charge) and this gives people a reason to keep the card for something other than real estate.

Great post - I really forget to leave a card most of the time -but we use the supra boxes around here - but I am going to try my best to take a pocket of cards to my next showings - thanks!

Real estate customs and rules differ from area to area. In my neck of the woods we are forbidden to leave our business cards in another agent's listing.

That was very clever of you.  I leave them too but I have yet to experience your situation.  Great job and info.

It is always the little things that seem to pay off. I would have never thought to leave one each time. Thanks for the eye opener...

Hi Diane,

This is a good story!  Now, now, don't think about leaving 25 cards at a time.  :-)

Sellers are ALWAYS checking out the cards that are left behind after showings! If you leave ones that have calendars or rate charts or recipes or SOMETHING on the back, they'll even hang on to them longer!

I usually try to sign them myself with a quick "Thanks!"

What a good idea to leave one each time. My goal is to hand out 15 per day.

It lets the seller know that some one was there.  It is just polite.

Not only it is the right thing to do for the listing agent and owner, but you have found it benefits everyone!  What a great idea for marketing without any additional costs to you (except 1 business card).  It also shows your competitors how busy you are.  I notice the other realtors that have been to that property at every listing I show.

Leaving a card is the norm for our area.

I agree if your card is memorable and stands out that the seller will hold on to it.

the same rule applies for the weekly Realtor tour. (or caravan)  Always leave your card, especially for out of the way homes.  One in particular called a Realtor in our office because she was the only one that had ventured out of her way on tour day to view their property - their own Realtor didn't even go.

The fact that a bowl was left for cards sounds like a great idea.  Haven't seen that in my area.  Thanks for sharing.

This point is well taken.  I typically have thought that leaving a business card at a home was only to notify the listing agent who has shown the home.  With the supra keys, I thought there was no need to leave a card anymore.  You have proven that theory wrong, and I will always leave a card from now on.  I have plenty of them to go around.

I also leave cards when I show homes, but the reason is to notify the seller that I was there, not to solicit business from another agent.  I wouldn't want that done to me and what comes around certainly goes around in this business...
