When the storms of life seem to be gushing in on us what do we do? Do we get scared and begin to sink like the disciples or do we do as Jesus did and say, "Peace, be still!"
Mark 4:36-41 talks about the raging storm and how the disciples were afraid. Although they were experienced fishermen they were afraid of the storm. They were afraid of the rocking of the ship. They were afraid of the raging sea. They failed to recognize Who was on the ship with them.
Why were they afraid when they had Jesus right on the ship with them? The disciples physically walked with Jesus while He was on earth. They actually witnessed the miracles He performed. So why were they afraid? They were afraid because they took their eyes off of Jesus. The Word tells us not to look to the left or to the right. Let us keep our eyes on the Prize and look to the hills from whence cometh our help. They knew the Messiah was with them and He had already promised He will never leave nor forsake us.
This is how some of us seem to get when we face a raging storm. We tend to become afraid when the storms of life seem to wear us down. But we should do as Jesus did. We should speak those words, "Peace, be still!" We should believe those words and speak them with boldness. We should keep our minds stayed on the things of the Lord. We should cast our cares upon Him because He cares for us. Let us recognize when the storms come we have to know that we know we are in the palm of His hand. The enemy is attacking because he knows the abundant blessings that our Heavenly Father has for us and he does not want us to receive them. The enemy knows we have life and we have it more abundantly.
Just as the enemy had to get permission from God to mess with Job, he has to get permission from God to mess with us. And if God allows the enemy to attack us we should be thankful and honored that God trust us enough to know that we will not fall against the wiles of the enemy.
Let us remember that Jesus is our peace. He is our peace in the mist of the storm. He is our peace when the ship is rocking from side to side and we don't know what to do. When we are desperate for our situations to change, Jesus is our peace. The scripture says, "Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusted in thee. Trust in the Lord forever: for in the LORD JEHOVAH is everlasting strength." Isaiah 26:3-4
Don't sink or drown, say, "Peace, be still!"
