Do you have Connectile Dysfuntion?

By
Real Estate Agent with Silvercreek Realty Group

Do you have Connectile Dysfunction? Then maybe you need Viagra an Aircard!

This is by far my most valuable Techno Gadget! I got my Verizon Aircard about a year ago, and I am still finding new ways to employ it in my business.  I'll tell you how I use it so far.

I use it at the office.  I work from my home, but when I go into the office I love to use my aircard so I don't have to rely on their slow internet access!

I use it at Open Houses.  I work predominatly with New Construction homes, so when we have unsold inventory I do Open Houses. I always take my laptop and aircard with me.  It's very useful to be able to pull up the MLS and give visitors information about other homes for sale in the same vicinity.  I also can use any downtime to write blogs, answer emails, or Hijack someone else's post!

I have used it as a GPS.  I am living in the Dark Ages because I don't have a GPS yet.  As an Idaho native, I don't really need one!  However, when my husband and I recently visited Phoenix and NYC, I was in the passenger seat playing navigator with my laptop, aircard and Google Maps if we got really lost.  (It didn't help at all in New Jersey though since their freeways are so crazy even the computer couldn't figure it out!) A GPS will be my next Geek Quest.

I have used it to work on Vacation.  I don't know about you, but I think Hotel WIFI is a joke!  The speeds are as bad as dial up at some places I've tried.  Now I bring my laptop and aircard, and I can do anything I would normally do in my office while on the road.  It very handy during airport layovers too.

Now, I will tell you about my Big Idea for the future!

I will use it in my Listing Presentations.  This is one of those "Why didn't I think of this sooner?"  ideas, but I am dying to give it a try.  I plan to put my next Listing Presentation on Power Point.  I can then take my laptop and aircard to the Presentation.  I will be able to show my clients all the great websites their home will be featured on, show them the Virtual Tours I use etc....  Of course I will bring printed material for them as well.  Being able to show them as opposed to tell them will be invaluable.  Now I just need to get that next listing lined up!  (Maybe all of you have been doing this for years, but last week was the first time I had thought of it.)

Most Cell Phone providers have this service.   Remember, you need cell service to be able to use the air card, so I would suggest going with the company that has the best coverage in YOUR area.  In Idaho, Verizon has the best coverage by far, but each area has it's own unique circumstances.

There are many styles of Air Cards.  The one I chose plugs into a USB port.  I like this because I can use it on my PC at home if I ever want to.  Also, when I upgrade my laptop, I won't have to worry about getting one that has a certain kind of slot for a specific aircard.

Just like a cell phone, an aircard has a monthly fee.  Most companies have a contract for 12 or 24 months service as well.  However, unlike a cell phone, you pay a flat fee for unlimited airtime!  There is also a fee for the air card, although most carriers have a free model available.  Click here to shop all carriers online at a discount. I have found that my aircard more than pays for itself with increased productivity!

If you have any ideas of how you've used your Air Card, please tell me about it!

I've been considering getting a tablet PC so I could write up contracts anywhere, have my clients sign them and then email them to the other agent.  Aircard would be on the list of must have accessories to go with it!

If you happend to have the VX6800 phone from Verizon, you coiuld also use it as an aircard! I plug my laptop into my cell phone and can browse the listings online and is much faster than my office WIFI!

I once did a listing presentation on the hood of my car!

I have one but mine has never worked very well.  I took it in before my vacation to make sure it was working properly.  I didn't have time to double check it before getting on the plane and found out it STILL isn't working.  I'm headed back to the store tomorrow to get one that works.  Very frustrating!

Dan~Thanks for your support!

Karl~Yes, you will wonder why you waited so long. It has to be a good fit for your budget and working plan though.

Cindy~That sounds like a sweet set up! Talk about Mobile Office!

Debbie~It's not the dog? ; ) Yes, for business people who work on the road it is vital!

Mark~I had the same frustrations before I got one! You can't trust that WIFI is going to work as planned.

Christine~Yes, I keep thinking of new uses!

Your solution seems to be less expensive than moving to a place where CD isn't a problem.  LOL

You bring up some great ideas, Pam. That's funny Google Maps couldn't handle NJ, but not surprising!

Robert~Mine is as fast as my cable internet at home. Technology changes so fast it makes your head spin.

John~Doesn't that eat up your cell phone minutes? Or do you have an unlimited plan? If you have an unlimited plan, I can see how that would be great!

Kathy~That would be very frustrating! Hope you get it fixed soon!

Margaret~It is a great tool to take advantage of otherwise wasted time!

Heath~Yes, it's much less expensive than moving! I love that it works almost anywhere!

Christopher~While in NJ, we had friends calling us from Cabs, and the Cabbie was asking us for directions to our hotel.......Hello, I've been in NJ for 10 hours now?!? ; )

As a small agency, we dont have the resources that a ReMax might, but we do what we can... one thing is that we provide all our agents with laptops and "air cards" so that they can do as you do... We also offer battery powered printers for them, so they can print stuff out for clients...

I am unaware though that the air card allows you to find your own location on Google Maps... how do you configure that?

That would be another great use.

It is amzing how technology is advancing this industry, finally...

Paul~I am amazed by the amount of tools you provide to your agents!  I don't know of any Re/Max agencies that provide anything near that to their agents here in Idaho!

Google maps doesn't let your find your location.  I just would figure out where I was, and then look at the map to figure out where I was going.  If there is anything that lets you map your location, I don't know about it.  That's why I still need a GPS.

Technology changes so quickly though, it is probably right around the corner!

Until my current job, I never needed a GPS, now it is great and I occasionally use it for personal reasons as well.  I haven't updated the software in 18 months, and it rarely ever has problems getting me from point A to point B!!

I just got my broadband card last night, and I can't wait to use it. I also appreciated what you said about New Jersey "freeways" being the way they are. Chances are though, you'll be sitting in traffic here more often than not, so you have plenty of time to talk, surf, or check maps while sitting on the Interstate waiting to pay a toll. :)
