I fully understand the impact of the current economic downturn and the role that it plays in our overall economy. I understand that many people are losing their homes to forclosure and I think that is terrible. I know that at lease some lenders utilized some poor practices getting people who were not properly qualified into loans. I know!
But, I don't think it is appropriate for the fecderal government to create a massive bailout program to rescue everyone from themselves. Whatever happened to personal responsibility? Once again, America is becoming the land of punish the achievers and reward those who get it wrong. It's not my fault or responsibility that people - adult, thinking, nearly-responsible people - made poor decisions in the wake of a home buying frenzie. I understand their plight, but I don't feel I should pay for it.
This huge bailout may stabilize the economy. Great! But is sends the message once again to people that if you make poor decisions the government will bail you out! It also sends the message to responsible people that if you make good decisions and succeed, the government will take from you to compensate those who made poor decisions.
I realize that this may not be a politically proper perspective, but it is how I feel. Sorry.
