On the North fork of Long Island, It Gets Me Every Time…

Tag SaleWe were heading to the annual Clambake courtesy of the Flanders Men’s Club. While there were a few errands to run, the day was interrupted when that magnet sucked my car into a parked position.

As happens so often on the North Fork of Long Island in the summer, locals and vendors pick a sunny day, and the race is on for those looking for that SOMETHING. Or ten. Below are a few photos of the ultimate tag sale experience on the North Fork of Long Island. Until next weekend.

The coke machine worked perfectly, and was priced at 20.00. Had the seller not offered to plug it in and demonstrate, he’d have missed out on the quarters that ejected en masse. And we left without them.

Satisfied that all had been viewed, considered, and explored, it was off to the clambake.

Flanders Clam Bake enteranceThe wonderful thing about living on the North Fork of Long Island is that the unexpected events provide the most memorable experiences. eatin!Whether it’s corn that has a sweetness that defies qualities inherent in a vegetable, or a coke machine that dumps a small fortune into the lap of a surprised seller, it’s just, well…FUN. And next weekend is just around the corner…

Clam Bake WaterIf you’re unaware of our beautiful area, the tag sale map below offers a view: we’re on the top fork. The other “fork” at the tip of Long Island is the Hamptons. Visit www.optionsrealty.com for more North fork “stuff”.

Hi Laurie, I don't know how you can pass by these places!  They draw my attention too and I usually drop a few bucks and drag something home too.  Was the clam bake good?

Laurie, You got a STEAL on that coke machine, how much fun is that?  I love these things and sure wish I had known although I was working Saturday and the rain here was awful on Sunday....I can always look for next weekend.  It will give me an excuse to take a beautiful ride, I love the North Fork of Long Island!

So...what else did you buy? You must need a high chair and stroller for when baby visits?

My mother was just like you. NEVER passed a tag sale empty handed.

Gary, even though it exercises the brakes on my car a bit too often, I love them! The clam bake was amazing- while not a big clam/lobster eater, the view was amazing, and we had a great time.

Carole, call me and we'll do it together- the furniture at this one included several headboards that were intricately carved, and just beautiful...but the Coke machine took up the whole truck!

Joan, another Calli opportunity! I actually found a gorgeous old crib (wrought iron) that I loved, but back when it was made, the side slats were just far enough apart to allow a little head to get stuck, so I passed. So, I guess I'll just have to hit more sales. Darn.

Ruthmarie, it is just not possible to NOT find something cool out here. While the Coke machine was not my "pick", I did find a little wrought iron ashtray, with a little figure of a man clutching a streetlight. His eyes are "x"'s, and he's sort of leaning and clutching the pole. For a dollah. I think your mother sounds like a fun person- did she drag you along?

Hi Laurie!

Your area looks like a great place to live and vacation....I would love to attend some of those tag sales (although I've got way too much 'stuff' already and know I would end up coming home with a bunch more) and the clambake looks like there was a wonderful time had by all.

So, you bought the coke machine?

Actually, the Coke machine is on the patio, but was not MY purchase...although I've grown to like it! Jo, if you saw the ornate, antique bedroom furniture (head/footboards, dresser, mirror) that I recently saw for 20.00, you'd be like me-- wishing that I had a moving truck every time I head out. I was going to take a pic, but would have simply salivated over it, and regretted not having gotten up just a tiny bit earlier. No worries- next weekend will provide other amazing "finds"!
