Why Los Angeles "Rocks, Rattles, and Rolls" more than ANY other CITY

How can I make such a BOLD statement? Well, because I can and I can back up that statement. With the exception of San Francisco, every other city is secondary. This is not something proud to say but here is the reason why.

Here is an article about the quake. 5.4 Earthquake

A powerful earthquake rumbled through Southern California this morning. It registered a magnitude of 5.4 and we all felt it pretty good here. The epicenter was located near Chino Hills CA. It jolted buildings for several seconds which while you're in it is rather unnerving. I was in the second story and I can SEE the building swaying back and forth. The cracks along the walls were also audible and you can hear the wood squeaks as the earth moved from underneath. It was a rolling motion. A good analogy is to picture yourself in a fun house and it is being bounced from all angles.

A water line at a Macy's department store broke and will be closed for several days. Metrolink trains were instructed to slow down so inspectors can check on the tracks. A small landslide came down along HWY 91. Attractions at Disneyland were shut down for inspections. A few phone lines were down. My cell phone was inoperable for at least 30 minutes. I tried to make calls to family and friends but I could not get through. Thank goodness for text messaging because it worked!

It was a rather rude awakening for those who felt it since we had not had an earthquake in quite some time. I have had my shares of the quakes while living in Southern California so I am somewhat accustomed to it. For others it may be a heart wrenching experience since your mind would just go haywire not knowing what to do.

Do you duck under a sturdy table?

Do you run towards the nearest doorjamb and hold on tight?

Do you look for the front door and run out as fast as possible onto the street?

Personally, I would make a dash out onto the sidewalk as fast as possible. If you stay under the desk, you may get crushed. If you stand under the doorjamb, you may get crushed. Getting out in the open area is my own personal choice.

I hope everyone is ok.

For those in other cities, I can say you are glad you are not in Los Angeles otherwise you will feel the *Earthquake* HITS Los Angeles today 7/29/08 @ 11:42am PST.

Jim:

I felt my whole house shake in San Diego today at 11:45. I had family from the east coast visiting & they had never felt an earthquake before. It wasn't really bad here in San Diego, but it does take you by surprise. Contrary to many folks from other parts of the country, we don't dwell on the possibility of earthquakes, & just take them as a part of life out here.

Deborah, I did not realized that it had reached all the way down to SD until I read the news clip. These rumbles sure travel far and wide. Look on the bright side, at least we don't have any tornadoes, hurricanes, and floods. Every place has its own flaws. :)
