Local Stager Abducted to the world of Redesign and loving it.

Home Stager with RoomByRoomRedesign

Seems extremely ironic that what I thought I planned to pursue in the way of staging homes to sell has totally gone by the wayside.  The market is different here than other parts of the country houses cannot be built fast enough and existing homes are selling like hot cakes.  Know what you're thinking,  "The staging business doesn't look too promising...."  BUT THE REDESIGN, DECORATING, ONE-DAY MAKEOVERS AND BATH/KITCHEN RENOVATIONS AND UPDATING IS BOOMING LIKE CRAZY!!!  I know it's not exactlly staging, I still get to declutter and Feng Shui with the best of 'em.  So, am I sorry that I took that ASP training and paid a lot for it in Austin, TX in 2005, heck no, I still learned and met some of the greatest people and will have that experience for the rest of my life. For years and years I was a florist, a floral designer, went to one of the best design schools in the West in '84.  I still get to do that with all the passion I ever had, it's just on a different level and I never regretted whatever the cost or time any education I have received.  Different people or want-to-bes will tell you, "I am a professional, 'what have you' artist, designer, stager, decorator and the list goes on but it only counts if you actually have had the experience of lots of failures to know that when you pull yourself back up again and reinvent yourself one more time that's the price of being a "professional".  It's also paying attention to  the details.  I love what I do and am afforded the luxury of practicing it over and over.  I have to admit at times in the Rain groups I have felt dismissed, snubbed, etc., however, that is my own issue to deal with, perhaps I wasn't from a big city like Seattle or NYC or LA or Dallas  but I really don't believe that is relevant.  There's been a lot of giving and love in the Rain and I hope at least to a few I lent some support and comfort.

This sounds like a farewell but it's not,  I will be back because even though I don't participate as much here in the  Rain like I use to,  I'm always thinking about all the good people I have met here.

I think it's wonderful you found your focus.  I suspect many stagers here have not yet defined their niche.  If you think about it, the objectives of staging vs redesign are totally different.  Most of us offer both, but over time, I think the most successful businesses will be the ones who focus on what they have the most passion for.  Keep on raining, though! ;)

Hi Joni ~ I'm glad to hear that you are happy with what you are doing.  Here in my area, staging is not at the top of the list for homeowners or realtors.  Most of my business is decorating and redesign.  On occasion I get a call for a staging consult, but that's as far as it goes.  Thankfully, you are enjoying what you are doing.

Hi Stranger!

Since we talked, you can't imagine what this market has done.  Vacants are mostly where it's at, and if your're not willing to invest in inventory, I don't think you can just do redesign.  That's just the way it is here, I would have never thought it!

Hi Joni,  Your post was extremely refreshing to hear...it's really not about one or the other, but what gifts you bring to the table that enhance our business(es).  in my area I 'thought' with the downturn in the market I would really only be doing staging jobs, but I am always amazed at the number of people who want redesigns. People want to feel good about their homes, and when they arrive at the end of the day, they want to feel good about being there. And to know that I can make that happen..it's an incredible feeling.I loved your before & after kitchen...WOW!  All the best to you and pop in every now and then!

Hi Joni:

I just redesigned a home that's coming on the market.  The agents/homeowners don't always have the funds to rent furnishings and for the most part, I use what the homeowner has, plus bring in some new things, accessories, rugs, artwork, etc. to enhance their home.

It works great, and my average days on market for the homes I redesign is anywhere from 24 hours to 2 weeks.

Good luck and thanks for the post.

Joyce
