Real Estate Agent with Hawaii Life Real Estate Brokers R(S)54097

Do you get the feeling that a lot of real estate agents are running scared.  They are looking at multi marketing or cutting hair for a living. I remember in the last down cycle people were saying it will never get better.  This is a pruning period in real estate.  The season agent knows how to step it up and also how to trim their sails. There are people that still need to move to other cities.  People that are actually looking at this market as a opportunity to buy.  So why the media is painting a negative picture and some of it is bad. There is still opportunity to be had so row up your selves and get to work. www.nickensmaui.com

Pam and I will be here when the dust settles - many have fell to the wayside - I believe part of that was due to the downturn, but part was also that there is a thought that being a Realtor is an easy buck - NOT QUITE.

I too agree and have been through some slow times in the past.  This is the time that the tough get going and the others just GO....Get back to basics, the things we did when we began our careers.  If the media would just stop reporting statisitcs that are creating fear, we might get back on track sooner.  ow is your market doing?

The media doesn't create our reality, we do! I think you're right on Steven - I'm a new agent, so this market is all I've really known. I work 7:30am to 6 or 7pm and I've got buyers and sellers!

I could use a haircut though...

There are a lot of people buying. Great time for first time buyers or investors.  Many opportunities!

While the media doesn't create our reality, millions of people watch and believe them. Newsmen need to stop creating the news and just report it like the old days. I do not know how to do this because they are competing with each other for billions of ad dollars. Notice how they can make a hurricane out of a lousy storm?

Steven - there are a lot of people who are running scared right now. There are great opportunities for buyers right now.

I should have looked you up as I was just visiting Wailea and got home last week. What a beautiful place, and hope your market is smokin".

This is a tough time for way too many in this business.

I, however, do not agree with David. It is really tiring all these attempts to blame the media. Why put the carriage in front of the horse? First you have a crappy market, and then everyone screams about it, not the other way around, In great years the media was screaming about how great the market was, - did you complain then?

Just be fair.

I'm with you Steve!  It's time for weeding out the weak and those who have planned ahead and continue working diligently are the successful ones who will be carrying the torch when this all blows over!  The media is not doing us any favors either!!

We have found that it is also a time when agents that were considering retiring, are.  The difficulty is that most agents are "hunkering down" until the market turns (it finally has for us) so replacing those retirees is a challenge.  We have welcomed some agents from smaller brokerages whose founder decided to retire.   We are very fortunate to have them and are still looking for a few more.

Aloha David,

I agree with you the media does shape public opinion. I remember when the market was good they would put a ngative spin on the market and guess what. Thanks for your comments.

Steve

Aloha Jon,

I do believe the media affects the mood of the public. Winston Churchill said in his book that in WW II they used the media to change public opinion to get the U.S. into the war when most Americans thought we should stay out of it. Just a thought.

Steven- I am a newbie to the profession. (2 years) Why I waited so long to get my license....I don't know. So, I have never known a boom time. Because I love it, even in this down, slow market, I am hanging in there awhile longer. I know the market will turn around, it always does. Let's get to work!
