Broker/Agent Comment

Yesterday I held a Broker Tour viewing at #20 Boimare Ave. Kenner LA. We had a total of three agents view the property. All three were very professional and knowledgeable of the market for the given area. I was surprise to find out that one agent had taken on a new job in insurance to make end meet. She has been in the business since 1991. She was a producer. It started me thinking about other agents. How many have done the same? This home for sale in Kenner at a 199,900 price is one of the best deal around and only 3 agent stop by to view. I am curious to see what our license renewal was last month. If I had to guess, I would think that this viewing would have produce about 8 attendees in normal times.

What is the feedback about your agents? Are they moving on into new fields of work or sticking it out?

Frank, I held a broker's open yesterday too.  My turn out was a little better (about 20 agents) but I heard at least one of them trying to sell some health products he's hawking on the side.

Our office hasn't lost too many agents (at least none of the performing agents) but there have been many other offices in the area that have closed.  I read that 20,000 people were either late paying or didn't renew their MLS fee in the Phoenix market.

Membership for the Maryland board I belong to is down by several hundred members and I just heard that the Pennsylvania board I belong to has reported that 15% of its membership has not paid their last lockbox fees and those members have had their access to lockboxes shut off.

Frank, I think a lot of the agents are going back to the workforce. One of my agent's just went part time.

In our area we are not sure about the agents but many title companies have closed some of their locations and combined others.

Yesterday I attended CE and many oldies but goodies were complaining about the lack of work.  I think our market has shifted and more leads have come from the internet.  I think some of the former top producers failed to shift with the market.

Just my 2 cents.

I know the agent. It was just time for a change. Going thru the Katrina aftermath can change your view on what you do. Her mother also has cancer and want to spend time with her. Having no health insurance is very expensive in real estate. The business does make people burn out and just wanting more family time does have a draw.

I do not have the energy to go on tour these days. Nice to see you at Canes this week.

Eric, It was good to see you as well. Well the tour did pay off with the property going under contract late last night.

Thanks to all for the comments.
