This is my first time posting on this blog. After some thought, I decided that since I like to know what's going on around me, I would choose that subject to write about. I live and work in Rock Hill and I love it. The news today brings to our attention the subject of growth, specifically regarding the Rock Hill Airport. There has been quite a bit of controversy about it. Although I am a Realtor and one would expect me to want more growth so that my business could grow, I also know that one of the reasons I love living here is because of the small town community feeling. I moved here 11 years ago from the Connecticut but grew up in New Jersey. I have seen the positives and negatives of growth. I do realize it is inevitable so I come from the point of view that growth should come with a well thought out plan. I've been impressed with York County and the fact that we have the Pennies for Progress program which has expanded roads well in advance of the growth. But now I'm torn as to how I feel about the possible expansion of the airport and how it might effect not only the families that live nearby, but our area in general. We have a wonderful airport in Charlotte. Have you ever driven to and flown in and out of the Newark Airport in NJ? Charlotte far surpasses that in ease of use and lack of congestion. So why do we need to expand our airport? I am no expert but I'm sure that it would bring more revenue into our city and that could be a good thing. But again, I must consider the families that could be directly effected. My take is that we make sure we study and plan for all the pros and cons.
Thursday, July 31st there will be a Public Presentation regarding the proposed Airport Overlay District. If you are interested in attending it will be held at the City Council Chambers in Rock Hill City Hall, 155 Johnston St. from 6PM to 7:30PM.
