I guess I am here is ask a question that I don't see an answer to on the Activerain site.

What are the long term goals of the site. We are all actively add info and referring our friends to this site and I havve yet to see just where it is all headed. Will this site which is free right now start charging? Will it develop in to a network that is looking to pick up some benefit on referring real estate transaction?

What are the benefits of being a part of the network? This is a huge question!

Any and all comments would be appreciated on this subject.

"You will NOT start charging people for being members of the network, for consumer referrals or the tools/exposure we provide."

Matt, I'm sure that's a typo. I'd be more confident if you wrote "We".

Although "networking" is the main purpose of the site, the ActiveRain team has done some tremendous things to have things highly optimized for search engines. Even if you don't have your own website yet (which I know you do), you'd still gain great targetted exposure as you continue to develop good content. And as Linda pointed out, get the good stuff out there!

I am new to ActiveRain (only a few days on) but I have already gained so much information and really appreciate the sharing in the blogs.  I also see this site as a fabulous resource to find referral sources in other areas of the country - the movers and the shakers are all here!!!

I too am new to Active Rain, but the exposure alone on Google, Yahoo and MSN search engines are fantastic!  If just for that reason alone, I think this network is awesome!  I'm certain that there are other advantages, but like I said, I'm new to this network so I haven't figured them out yet.

Great questions Doug! BTW I met you when you spoke at the Port Charlotte, FL board of realtors with Cyberstars a few months back.

I was thinking the same thing. Somebody has to be paying for the site. I know on Cragislist everything is free except the help wanted posts.

Hope Matt's comment is correct that it will remain free with options in the future.
