Know who's working for you when buying a home.

By
Real Estate Agent with Keller Williams Legacy Group Realty

Every homebuyer goes through the same process.  It starts with a thought that maybe you could own your own home.  Or maybe your family has outgrown your current home.  So you sit up late at night on the computer to see how much home you can get for your hard earned money.  You may casually wander through some weekend open houses.  You watch current interest rates.  Now you think "this just might be doable".  Now it's time to get serious.

So just how do you find a real estate professional who will provide you with knowledge and expertise to make wise decisions and negotiate to get you the best deal possible.  Here are my tips for finding an agent to successfully guide you through what could be the most complicated transaction of your life:

l.  First look for an Accredited Buyer's Representative.  Real estate professionals who earned the ABR® Designation have taken special training that focuses on you, the homebuyer and specialize in buyer representation.

2.  Interview agents or check their websites as to their knowledge of the area you want to live in, how well they are able to communicate and listen to your wants and needs, how quickly they respond and  how well they understand the lending process and available programs.

3.  Ask for references or testamonials.  You'll be more confident knowing others have had a positive real estate experience.

4.  Now that you feel comfortable with this agents credentials, make a commitment to work exclusively with that agent.  A true real estate professional is completely dedicated to accomplishing the goals of their clients.  It will be a beneficial relationship.

5.  Communicate with your agent.  Be up front about your expectations and goals.
