In 2008 I thought we were past this type of thinking. I see not!!
You know there are several things (topics) that I try to stay away from because at times it can lead to so much controversy but it has become prevalent of late. Where do these radio personalities get off thinking saying disparaging remarks about African Americans. First (and most recently) the Don Imus fiasco concerning the Rutgers University Women’s Basketball team.
I will not dignify and write what he said as I know most everyone has heard it before. What gives him the right to spew his venom across the airwaves for all to hear. And after it was said the famous reply is ”they took it out of context”. There is no way when you spew hatred that anyone ( with a modicum of common sense) would not see what you are doing. It has been said before what comes out of the mouth is already on your heart. Why are they allowed to be back on the air. Why were they not put in prison. Is it because of “freedom of speech”? I came from a family who brought me up to respect people for who they are and for some reason you didn’t like them keep it to yourself or suffer the consequences.
My mother taught me a valuable lesson. She said you meet people singularly day in and day out. There is no way you can hate or dislike a whole race of people because you will never meet the whole race. I have used that thought pattern over the years and it makes perfect sense to me. I have 3 beautiful children who are of mixed race. I LOVE THEM DEARLY!!!! I am no longer with their mom but I have such great respect for her and she (thru my God) brought them here into this world. We thought them to accept people for who they are as well.
Now one of the main reasons for this is I received an email stating a comment by
'I don't want to go on a lynching party against Michelle Obama unless there's evidence, hard facts, that say this is how the woman really feels. If that's how she really feels -
That it is a bad country or a flawed nation, whatever - then that's legit. We'll track it down.'
The name was left out but if you are interested Google Star Jones and read her response to this statement. You will find out who said it.
This being said about the wife of one of our Presidential candidates. 2008 ladies and gentleman. People still think like this. There would be no way I could (or any rational human ) not think this was taken in the way it was said. I read just as plain and clear like the next person. Would this have been said to the wife (or husband) of a candidate if they were white. Was it said about Hillary Clinton? No. Other things were said but nothing to this level. You may or may not agree with her thought pattern but does it rise to the level of wanting to have her killed over it. I am a child of the latter 50’s. I was not here in the USA for a number of years as my family relocated elsewhere. So a lot of what happened here I was not privy to but I know enough to know what happened in that time period was not a good thing.
I sat in on a meeting (yesterday) at the Fair Housing Center and as the meeting progressed I thought again in 2008 in the richest country in the world there are so many ignorant individuals who would discriminate against people because of the color of their skin. It baffles me just to think of it. Why should there be a Fair Housing Center? Should people not know that they should treat each other as equals? Did God in His infinite wisdom think HE will make some people better than others? Even as I wrote that it sounded ludicrous. So why does it happen? Because people think they can hide it. They discriminate because they know no better. All excuses in my book. It sickens and saddens me because my grandkids will grow up in this mess of a world. You should feel the same way too. It’s going to take our Lord to come here and straighten this world out. In the Bible (in Revelations) it states all things of this world will pass away. I can’t wait. I truly can’t. I’m not asking one person to agree with me. I leave that to your conscience.
