Emails and being Rude or Ranting

By
Real Estate Agent with Allen Tate Realtors

Yesterday, I received an email from someone I've never heard of and I noticed there were many Realtors, home inspectors and related services in the "to" address line.  When you saw the body of the email, it had a black background and large red lettering.  It was about God, or their impressions of God and what people should do.  I did not finish reading it as it rambled and seemed "rather dark" to me, meaning not in the spirit that something about God is normally written and passed along on the internet.  It sort of gave me the creeps so I just deleted it.  Maybe the coloring, red letters on black, are not colors used in writing about most religions to my knowledge.

This morning, that email was back in my inbox but this time, by someone responding in one of the most crude and degrading methods I've seen in some time.  Obviously, he either did not know or did not care that every person who was in the "to" address line would be getting his crude remarks as well.  Of course, he did not have the courage to sign his name after the "rant" about the people who talked about God thinking they had the right to - yadda yadda yadda.  Again, I deleted it.

His email address pretty much gave away who he was . . . if he is a Realtor, now his name and rant will be in/on the internet never land forever if someone chooses to send it out there.

I sure would not want to be remembered for saying something like that, even if I did not agree with the sender.  Just delete it or think before you hit the send button.

Sheila, people just do not think at all anymore.  It's like their brain is in park.  They feel that they have some kind of anonymity on the web even when they expose their names.  No face to be in front of...so they feel safe enough to be rude crude and obnoxious.  I find it rather sad.

Sheila, we have been told to put it in writing!  Deals, that is.  Not rants!  I have told both of my boys when they started using email not to type anything someone can print and then use against you.  I wonder if that person thought better of it after he hit send and then oops!  too late!

Sheila,  First and foremost is the need for discretion.  Colors are certainly a very big part of that.  Secondly, people who do bulk email should use the blind copy section so that it doesn't expose people to spammers.  It is a very easy thing to do even though I prefer not to deal with all the junk mail.

Sheila, I would bet they didn't even realize they sent their rant to everyone.  You have to be so careful these days.  Once on the net, forever on the net. . .
