YORK COUNTY GROWS

York County was the fastest growing area in South Carolina.  Our proximity to Charlotte NC (10 minutes south) has contributed to a population growth of over 5% based on the 2007 census.  Charlotte, of course, is a dynamic and growing metro area.  NC residents seeking a little less pace, lower taxes, and great schools are moving south of the state line to take advantage of the lower state and property taxes.

Rock Hill regained its claim to being the fourth largest city in SC with a population of 64,700.  Rock HIll has a median age of 32, median household income of $52,432, and 55% of its residents are college educated.  Its growth rate of 5.4% made it amount South Carolina's fastest growing cities.

Fort Mill, another popular York County town is know for its schools.  Fort Mill's growth was 7.2%.

The great news is that the city and county managers recognize the changes and the impact and are positioning the area to remain a great place to live.
