In my world, a pet is a member of the family. I have had several clients and friends in College Station who have lost their pet in the last month due to prolonged illness. My sympathies go out to anyone who has lost their beloved pet. My very own little girl, Tigger Lily, lost her battle with cancer last month. It is really hard to know what to say to someone when this happens.
This photo of Tigger was taken the day before she went into pulminary failure. The vetrenarian called me and we decided to put her to sleep when he said that she was really struggling and it was only a matter of hours anyway. Putting an animal you love to sleep is probably the hardest thing I have ever done. I know it was the right thing, and I was glad to hold her until the very end, but it is certainly an event I will never forget. Pet owners often talk about "The Rainbow Bridge" first written about in a poem, as a place pets go when they leave this earth. I believe a place like that must exist. Below is a different poem I wanted to share with my clients and friends who have recently had to make the decision to let their family member go. I felt it really helped me.
