Builders, designers and homeowners...listen up.

There is a terrific candy store in town with the best prices and deals around.

Builders Trading Company in Leucadia (Encinitas), founded in 1992, is now known as the Builders Candy Store (760) 634-3220. The reason?

Builders Candy Store in Leucadia (Encinitas)

Builders Candy Store in Leucadia (Encinitas)Well, there are some pretty sweet deals here, with tremendous discounts on dozens of home products like Pella windows, European Marble and Sierra Pacific. The aisles are stocked full of all the doors and windows you could want. And it's just around the corner from Carlsbad.

But in addition to large price reductions on the well-known builder items (including overstock and canceled custom orders) there are loads of other salvage items, especially doors (some are fabricated by the owner with customized iron).

Detail of door at Builders Candy Store in Leucadia (Encinitas)You might find some pretty cool stuff from famous places like the Hotel Del Coronado. There are carved mantels, artistic sconces, molding, fixtures and so much more.

A real treasure trove of house stuff.

The opportunities to dress up your existing home, or to add distinctive character to a new home being built are limited only by your budget and interest. It’s like being in a candy store, with everything on sale. Making the decision will be the hardest part. The owner, Lee Chalison, is a gentleman and clearly enjoys what he is doing, and will go out of his way to help you find what you want.

So take a trip down Route 101 (the Coast Highway) in Leucadia and stop in the Builders Candy Store at 1144 N. Coast Highway for some inspiration. (760) 634-3220. The old name is still on the building, but you can’t miss it – about ½ mile south of LA Costa Avenue in the parking lot with the Leucadia Surf Shop and the US Post Office.

Jeff, that is a unique name, but I can see why they would call it that after seeing the video, especially if the prices are as good as you say :)

Yummy post and video Jeff.  So much more character in that store than 'The Walmart!'

George - well, spenind s few thousand dollars for a custom door is a lot in my book, but a door for 50% of the original cost is a pretty good savings any way you look at it.

LOL, Kelly. And when you walk in that is immediately how you feel. :) Very approprate and clever name.

Lynda - come on down and shop to your heart's (and pocketbook's) content. And there are some neat restaurants very close by.

Mara - isn't Leucadia a cool place to visit? I think it's the kind of place that you either really like, or don't. A bit quirky and funky, and that's what is so much fun. I enjoyed meeting you as well - just not enough time to talk much. Next year??

Susie - thanks for stopping in. It's a great place to know about as a resource for clients.

Jeff, I LOVE stores like the one you just showed.  I could spend hours looking through the building materials. What cool doors!

It's amazing how many calls I get from people for this place. They do a Google search and my post shows up #1, and I get the call. 2 this week alone.
