When the closing dust settles it's time to go furniture shopping!

When your Clients have finally closed and the paperwork is complete it is time to go shopping!

How many times has a client asked if you know of any great decorators of designers or ask for suggestions on where to get furniture for their new home?  Sure, you could Google a number of names and phone numbers, but your reputation is on the line and you want to be sure that your Client will continue to be treated with the respect and service they deserve.

I have worked hand in hand with Realtors, Sellers and Buyers for many years and I understand that carefully cultivated relationship.  And while your business relationship may have wrapped up at the closing table, repeat  buyers and referrals are the cornerstone of any successful Realtor. You want them to stay happy.  So do I.

Most of my design clients have come from Realtor referrals.  In the past, as an independant designer, I spent countless hours trekking from one furniture store to another, visiting rug stores, accessorie stores, picture stores and on and on and on.  The excitement of furnishing a new home can quickly dissolve in a pool of exhaustion.  Since moving to Northern Atlanta I have become involved with a new, improved and beautifully simplified concept in interior design and home furnishing.

I walked in a newly-designed Bassett Furniture store and was amazed!  They have recently opened a new store in the Perimeter area and a new flagship store in Kennesaw is currently under construction (slated for opening mid-August).  Bassett has completely renovated the retail furniture store concept.  The first thing I noticed was the similarity with Restoration Hardware.  The plan is open and airy.  The space is seperated into "Lifestyles."  The best part is that in addition to the regular offerrings (many of which are comparable to Restoration Hardware in quality and style, but significantly lower in cost) upholstered sofas, chairs and ottomans, as well as dining sets and work stations can be custom built in 30 days!  They also offer custom window panels, hand-tufted wool area rugs, art, accessories and complimentary in-home design services.  I was impressed with the energy and creativity that the designers put into creating personalized storyboards for each clients, and creating design vignettes in the presentation rooms to help them visualize the space.

I have worked with luxury retailers and I know that 30 days is unheard of for custom upholstery and dining.  I also know what they cost and I was flabbergasted by the affordability of the Bassett pieces.  I don't know how they do it, considering that the custom pieces all come from North Carolina and Virginia, but I am glad that they do!

I was so impressed by the quality and the team at Bassett, that I joined them!  I will be among the team when we open the new store in Town Center, Kennesaw, Ga on August 16th.  I look forward to sharing my love of design and my committment to outstanding service with you and your Clients.  If you would like to get on a VIP list for events and promotions, email me at stagingconcepts@aol.com.

At robb and stucky they give my clients and automatic $500 gift certificate in their store for closing with me. The home must be over a certain price point but still cool.

Coming from the West Coast of Florida, I am very familiar with Robb and Stucky.  The new home buyer gift certificate is a great idea.  I will certainly pass that idea on to the folks at Bassett.  In this economy- we are all in this together and every little bit helps.  Thanks for the great suggestion.

Tracy,

Thanks much for the detailed heads -up on this which really got my juices going to visit such a show room.  I would never have thought to link Restoration Hardware and Bassett as having similar looks or products.

And I must comment on the importance of buying the furniture AFTER settlement as being a prudent measure, as I once had a buyer spend a significant amount between contract and settlement, and she ended up having to pay a substanially higher interest rate on her mortgage as it changed her cash reserves fairly significantly.

Best success in your new position, and let us know how things go and the latest trends!

Nancy,

You are so right.  It is imperative that buyers wait until AFTER closing to make purchases for their home.  Not only can it negatively effect thier credit status, there are times when the closing is delayed or may not happen at all.

The interior design is the dessert of the home buying experience.  When you have gone through all of the paperwork and legality of the business transaction - it is time to have some fun!  To quote Pink Floyd, "You can't have any pudding until you've eaten your meat."

Thanks for the kind welcome and I will definately keep updating with trend info.

Heather,

Thanks for the suggestion!  What a wonderful idea!  Working within the paramaters set by Bassett's home office, I have created a VIP Program for Atlanta home buyers that will enable them to save %25 off eveything in the store.  Realtors are able to include an invitation to the VIP program with their closing packet and their Clients are invited to private events and personal shopping experiences.  It is a customer-focused design experience.  I hope to expand this service, based on the success of this program.

Tracy...I do mostly intown properties, and more so condos. Does Bassett's furniture lend itself to condos? Meaning, sleek style with slim lines, no big pillowey furniture, etc? I like your VIP program, but I don't think I'd get people out to your store from Midtown?

In addition to our custom dining and upholstery, we have a variety of lifestyle collections.  Our "Georgetown Collection" is inspired by the youthful spirit of sophisticated city life.  It's a metropolitan energy that comes from living in the heart of the city.  It is well worth the drive.
