Just south of Travelers Rest and Taylors SC just before downtown Greenville, I found a great yard sale. I've been looking for a "big boy" bed for my almost 3 year old. I saw the hand written sign and pulled into a great community on a small lake.
The yard sale home was very nice, an older ranch style home completely macked out! When I pulled up I saw EXACTLY what I came for. Little did I know, I'd leave with much more.
The lady refurbished used pieces of furniture that she picked up around town. Painted bright and lively colors and then resold them...for not a cheap price I might add. And she could not be talked down on the antique twin bed I wanted for my son. We did get to talkin as we do here in the South. Turns out she was from Ocala and has only lived here for 4 years. When I asked her why Greenville from Ocala, here was her answer. For anyone who wants to know what Greenville and Travelers Rest is all about..this is it.
She said she was moving her stuff up here from Florida and had a load in a pickup truck, almost to her home. There is a large area just south of her for shopping called Cherry Dale and State Park Road which leads to Paris Mountain State park is just where she was going.
She made the turn on to State Park Road a little too sharply, hit the median, and the back of her pickup opened up and EVERYTHING in the back fell out into a very busy intersection. She was mortified knowing she would never be able to get it all in herself. She said within seconds, cars stopped where they were and four gentleman jumped out of their cars and within minutes had her loaded up and on her way. It was then she decided that true Southern hospitality did exist and that she'd made the right choice in Greenville.
I hear stories like this pretty frequently and I want to share them with everyone. We love this area and it's homes. But it's the people here that make our town so special. I invite anyone to come and experience the hospitality we can bring.
Oh yeah and the kicker. I left her with several business cards for all of her friends who were coming this way from around the country as well! Keep going to yard sales..you never know who you might meet.
Oh..and I did buy the bed!
