Photography is a visual art. It takes preparation and determination to get a good shot. I was always armed with my trusty Nikon 8088 and carried several lenses wherever I went.
One winter, I was at a friend's cabin in North Georgia which is on the Chattahoochee River. In this part of Georgia, it is more like a wide stream, clear and running and rocky!
I set up my camera on a tripod and decided to tale some long exposure of the river. I set the f-stop as closed as I could get it, F32 I believe and a 30 second shutter speed. After checking the meter and double-checking again, I hit the shutter button,
Amazingly, although it was a blustery cold day, when I pulled my eye away from the viewfinder, there was a kayak on the way down the river. He went right acriss the field of view.
What are the odds that the only boat that came past the property all day came just at the time my shutter was open? I waited anxiously for the film to be developed, and the resulting image is displayed here.
It's a cool abstract that once explained, is somewhat obvious. The cold green of the river and the orange kayak make a pleasing combination of colors. I really liked this shot, although it was pure luck that I got it!
Sometimes, it just happens!
