Home Stager with Stage-Show-Sell

We've had so many discussion about the stagers and many other HGTV shows.  We haven't discussed how annoying it is to have the story line given to us in the beginning of the show.   We have two minutes of the show and then a commercial break.   When the commercial break is over we have the show ReCapped again.  I guess we are all so stupid that during the commercial we forgot what they were doing.

I've noticed this on all of the design shows.

It's really annoying.

Matthew said that the shows were 23 minutes long without the commercials.  How much show is there when we take out the re-caps?

I no longer watch these shows without recording them first so I can fast forward thru it.

Anyone have any influence over these shows?

Does this annoy you as much as me?

Its true.

Lets do this this and this.  All the sudden they recap and the project is done.  Obviously its cheaper to do what they are doing, but its frusterating to watch on a regular basis.

Hey Virginia, I am with you on this!! How annoying to watch the same thing over and over.. I too, like to video the shows - much easier to zip through the redundant.. God bless,

Virginia,  I TiVo through the recaps myself.  But in all reality what do they have to talk about.  We are going to do this.  Okay, we're doing it.  Look what we did.  Pretty simple.  All we really care about is the before and after pictures anyway.

Hi Virginia,

I find that I like to watch the show after its been recorded, then I can fast forward through commercials, etc.  Have a great week.  Michael A. Caruso

You are right.  I think they are trying to inform people who came in late.  It can be annoying...   :)

Virginia I only like to watch the last five to seven minutes of the show - that way you get the recap and the final result without all the annoying other stuff.  :)  Betty

Virginia, I'm with Betty.  Watch the first 2 minutes then when the break with the first commercial and try to return in the last 5 minutes.  I do need to see HOW they do it anymore, but I guess many do.  Yes it is very annoying!

Why?

recaps are annoying.

but necessary - I assume it's to catch people up who have just tuned in?  Otherwise what would be the point?   Instead of complaining lets try to discern what the point is to these recaps.   There is a reason to everything - only the wise try to understand.

My guess is that they do this because so many people channel surf or TiVO today. This gives them a second chance to 'hook' a viewer for that episode, and yes, it's a little annoying.

Just about the only program I watch live anymore are my beloved Tiger baseball games!  Certainly can't record that and watch it later, when I already know the outcome, although I would certainly like to bypass all those commercials too.

All hail the DVR!!

The advertisers must be bummed, knowing that the majority of people blow right by their commercials!

Yes!  I hate this!  This happens on many shows unfortunately.  If the recap was taken out with the commercials the show would be only 10 minutes long.

Let's really hope that the Producers of most of the shwos on HGTV pay attention.

We are zipping thru all the commericals and that's what pays their bills.

FEATURE THIS... Real Estate Staging & Interior Decor - Lafayette, LA

My M.O. is to to auto-record all the shows I like (The Stagers, Curb Appeal, & Hidden Potential) with my DVR thingy. Once a week, I clear the cache out...

I watch the first 30 seconds, to see if I have seen it before. Then I fast forward at 300X speed to the last three minutes, when they do the reveal. I can watch 30 shows in under an hour!

The ones that I am impressed with the reveal don't get deleted. The others do. We watch every minute of the Stagers, however.

When my mom comes over, I play the shows that made the cut while we work on projects together. We have a TV in every work location...my mother is addicted and only to home improvement shows. She's sick with it. It drives me nuts how they drag everything out, so I hear your pain. But it;'s either that or Rush Limbaugh on the radio. I'll take Color Splash over him anyday.

I'm also a huge fan of Ghost Hunters, but I am too chicken to watch it at night by myself. Somehow, watching the first three minutes and that last three isn't so scary, and if it's a good reveal, I save it for when someone's home or it's broad daylight to watch it in it's entirety.

But I also listen to Gina Mc New in the bathtub. I eat in front of the computer while blogging, and I practice my presentations in the car. You'd think I'd relish 30 minutes in front of the T.V. just to jell out, but all I can do is think of what else I could be doing that is more constructive.

I need a valium. I need to watch a chick flick. I need a vacation!

~Michelle

Last night new show there were no Recaps.   Praise the lord.

This show was really different and good.

When I'm home and working around the house I have GHTV on in the back ground hoping that I'll learn something new.  My husband has the radio on listening to Rush.  What a combination of sounds.

I enjoy Rush for about 1/2 hr and that's it.

I'm leaving on Vacation at noon today and I'll be going thru AR withdrawl.   Pray for me.

Virginia, your so right! Anything on HGTV i record on dvr and watch later, you can watch a whole 30 min show in 10-12 minutes when you cut out the constant recapping
