What economic slowdown?

By
Real Estate Agent with Kansas City Regional Homes

Is it just me or is the year that I thought I was going to have to forget going to be a year to remember?

I wasn't around 4 or 5 years ago during the Halcyon Days when, I'm told that all a Realtor had to do was put a sign in the yard and the bidding war began.  I'm sure that more than a few salespeople got lulled into a false sense of security.  (Well, probably just the ones that hadn't been around during the 70's and 80's.)

But, I digress.  This year has been my best so far.  I'm not trying to brag or anything.  I'm just trying to find out if all of the gloomy stories I hear on the radio and tv are true.  Maybe it's because I'm in the Mid-West and things here don't fluctuate as much as they do on the coasts.  We have our share of foreclosures but maybe not as many as other areas and I'm sure we haven't had as many jobs lost as well.

And, here's a thought:  Those of you who are lucky enough to have some investor friends, why don't you tell them to invest in real estate here.  It's a great place to live (check us out on the Money magagazine survey!), and there are plenty of hot real estate deals to be had.  Plus, I think I know of this great Realtor who just loves to work with out-of-town buyers!

So, what's your opinion, fellow Realtors?  Is 2008 really that bad of a year??

We are not having as good of year as last year. But we are busy, phones are ringing and we

are closing deals. That makes it a good year for us.

Anne and Sandy:  It's always a good day when the phone rings and deals are closed!

Re/Max of Sonora:  Timing is definitely a large part of making your own luck in real estate.  After all, around 70% of all customers stay with the first agent who contacts them.

Paul...it's been a kick in the teeth to say the least.  I"m making more $ than ever before, but the volume is so much less.  It's just so touch and go.  I'm happy though and I'm blessed.

I agree.  I was just telling my wife earlier this week, that all of my transactions are up in the 200's where last year they were in the 100's.  I think this has been largely because of the credit crunch.  Those low end buyers are not qualifying for a mortgage.
