Fifth High School Land Purchased

Land purchase agreements for Douglas County's fifth high school were approved by the Douglas County Board of Education at their regular meeting on February 25, 2008. Additional land is being purchased on Georgia Highway 92/166 to add to a parcel the school system already owns. The site will be over 70 acres.

"The projected start of construction for the new high school is within the next year," said Superintendent Don Remillard. "It usually takes three or more years, start to finish, for a new high school to be constructed. When the new high school opens in about 2011 we will need to redraw the high school attendance boundaries to populate the new school."

"We are constantly watching growth trends in the housing market and don't anticipate any boundary changes for the 2008-2009 school year at any level (elementary, middle or high school) due to the slowdown in growth, " Superintendent Remillard said.

Unhappy Resident

Placing a school this size that close to residential areas is disturbing! Having this high school on a major intersection will defitenly cause traffic and noise issues for current residents. Had I known this was going to be a high school, I would have not moved into the neighboring subdivision. It is hard enough getting out of the subdivision in the morning. With the addition of a school, it can only get worse. Not only is that my concern, but 'wandering teens' into the houses nearby during the day may also be a big issue.
