Punctual Perks and How I Learned My Lesson!

Real Estate Agent with RE/MAX Plus

Oh how I hate to admit it, but, I am always late and have been trying for years to break the habit. It is a case of always trying to squeeze in one more thing to do before leaving for the listing, showing, dentist, doctor, football game (you get the idea) appointment. Something happened to me in July that really, finally hit home

I have a gorgeous new listing; the owners are away for the weekend. I have open house scheduled for Sunday. I have everything ready the day before, I am even hosting a brunch in the morning I am so ready! I leave with plenty of time to arrive, put up all of my open house signs, pull in the driveway and the skies open and we get hit with an unbelievable down pour. By the time I get my last sign up and trudge in the house (side door access) with all of my paraphernalia, I am dripping wet - so much for the little pop up umbrella! As I step into the laundry room from the garage I realize - I am early!! So, I strip off my wash and wear slacks that are dripping on the ceramic floor and throw them in the dryer.  I quickly scoot into the kitchen lay out my brochures, listing book, etc. turn on the lights I can safely get to without being seen and hightail it back to the laundry praying that no one shows up before 2! When I heard the first car door slam I grabbed them out of the dryer, slipped them on and was ready to greet the first visitors by the time they made it to the front door.

All day all I could think about was, thank goodness I was on time! Lesson learned and oops, got to go - I don't have time for this one last thing.

PS This is the first blog post I have ever written.

Congratulations on your first blog!!! I also fight of being late, especially to office meetings & seminars and lately I've had to stand through a class for 2 hours that has really taught me a lesson.

Now the questions begs to be asked what would you have done if A) the pants were not dry, B) they came to the side door where the laundry room was?

How can we not comment on such a great first post and timely (ha) topic! Tips for staying on time are always useful in my house. My favorite one is: my car clock is always set for five minutes after the "real" time. For those of you that don't suffer with this affliction it may seem silly but, some of us do have time issues. I have conquered it for the most part by getting up earlier. When you start the day a full hour earlier than usual you can really accomplish a lot more and be on time-always! It really works for me and I can have that relieved feeling when the pressure starts to climb in the car by reminding myself-I still have five extra minutes!

So I say Bravo, Angela! Keep on Bloggin!

Margo, thanks so much for the encouragement. It was interesting to see how quickly other people "found" it. So amazing . . .

Larry, A) they would have gone back on wet and B) this they could not do since they would have had to come in through the side of the garage and then into the laundry room, and these doors were locked! So, had to hope I would have enough time for them to dry up enough so it wasn't so obvious they were wet. The funny thing is, my seller was so glad that I felt comfortable enough to dry them, but she was really surprised because she thought the dryer was broken - they actually had a knob or dial part on order. I guess the big broker in the sky was looking out for me!

Doris, yep, we have "Angela time" at my house too! and in the car. Now that I have my first blog under my belt, I have to get going on another - consumer oriented I think. And I really appreciate the nice comment. I was hoping other agents might be inclined to tell some of their "this is what happened when i was late" stories.

Thank you for your comments! See you 'round the blogs.
