Hey, isn't that my job??

By
Real Estate Agent with Weichert Realtors Hoey Group

I started working with Jane a few months ago.  She and hew husband are looking for a single family home in the Wildwoods and as any agent who practices on the island can attest to, that can be a hard find.  Jane has grown children and she needs a home large enough to accommodate the grandchildren when they come to visit.  The home must also have a bedroom on the first floor.  Jane has MS and has difficulty climbing stairs. At some point she knows her difficulty will become an inability.

She and her husband live in the Philadelphia area, so she has about a two hour drive down the shore.  Her husband is a firefighter and works very long hours.  In short, she has a hard time viewing listings.

When I see something new that looks like it might work for her family, I shoot her out an email and see if there is any interest.  If Jane gives me the green light, I go to the home and snap a bunch of pictures and report back.  It works well and Jane doesn't waste her time.

Today I received a message from Jane that made me think about the agents she used in the past.  She thanked me for all of my work, for continuing to keep her in mind, and for going out to preview the homes.  When I spoke to her on the phone, she again thanked me for doing all of this running around, basically she thanked me for doing my job.

Aren't we supposed to gather as much information as we can and make the process as easy on our buyers as possible?  If that isn't it, then why do we get paid?

and a good job you did

it is hard sometimes for people with disabilities to realize that there are kind professionals out there with the compassion and work ethic that will allow them to reach out and go a step beyond the call of duty just to make their lives a little easier

David...  thank you.  Even if she was able to get around easier, I think I would do the exact same thing.  I really do feel like that is my job.

I do this!  Sometimes I even make a Real Estate Show for my buyer if the selling agent doesn't have a tour already.  That way I don't fill up their mailbox and they still get the more impressive feel of a tour.  Hey, I need to post that in the RES group ... :o)

Heather:

Good post and an admirable job.

Essentially, be it Real Estate, Mortgage or Title....we are all offering the same basic product in our respective fields.  Isn't it really the SERVICE that differentiates us from one another?

Heather,

You sell real estate like I do.  Service and knowledge is the name of the game!

Oh, by the way, pre-viewing homes and taking pictures sells homes.  I sold 2 homes like that, site unseen, in 2006.  I take about 40 to 50 pictures and make a slideshow.  Clients love it!

We do this, too!  We've been told by other agents that we're wasting our time, and yes, sometimes we have, but we really don't mind.  We have tons of people relocating here from other areas, and if the listing doesn't have many photos, then we have no problem going by and snapping a few.  It helps them out and keeps you in front of them.

service with a smile.  Way to go.  As someone who was dx'd with ms for several years, I doubly appreciate your help.  Just found out last May that I was mis-diagnosed.  It is a scarey disease.

Sarah...  it really shows that you care about your customers.

Tom...   people want to feel as if you canre about them.  I so agree, it has everything to do with service.

Theresa....   supposed to be providing

Carmen...  thanks for the idea.  I love new stuff.

Jim and Maria...  it might not work out for this one client, but who knows who you will run into next.

Joan....   service with a very big smile!!!  I am sorry to hear about your MS scare.  My mother has lupus, but for a few very scarey months, she was told she had MS as well.

It's sad that there are some people out there who provide such a low level of service. It gives us all a bad name. Way to help change the perception of real estate agents!

Yes it is our job, and one I love. I too put together slide shows for clients with travel issues or when a tour is unavailable. Working in the best interests of our clients --whether doing leg work, taking pictures, or thorough research -- it is our job. Thanks for the post Heather!

No two tranactions are alike in what the client expects out of us.  The important thing is to be flexible and it sounds like you have a committed buyer because of your flexibility in helping her.
