Here's a great early morning or evening walk in Downtown Newnan. Just park at the old courthouse square, and perhaps grab a cup of java at Espresso Lane Coffee Shop, and you're ready to go!
From the Northwest corner of the square, across from the Gridiron Grill, head out on West Washington past the Herschel Building and the First Baptist Church. Turn Right on College Street and walk past the many period Victorian and Antebellum homes.
Continue walking North on College Street until you arrive at the Male Academy Museum. If you prefer less walking, you can park here as well. The park covers the block between College Street and Jackson Street to the East.
The Park itself is simple, with limited facilities, but it has it's own unique qualities. The gazebo has been the site of many photographs, particularly wedding and prom shots.
The park also features several walkways, and a fountain. The seasonal planting scheme assures that something is blooming in the park year round.
Linger as long as you like in the Park, heading to the East end on Jackson Street. From there, you may turn South on Jackson Street and return to the square.
The walk can take anywhere from twenty minutes to an hour, depending on how many sights you stop to observe. There are no severe inclines and the sidewalks are in good repair.
Newnan is a great walking town, so why not park the car and enjoy? You'll be glad that you did!
