Sell Your Home, Keep Your Memories

By
Real Estate Agent with LS Rogers Realty

Time To Move

Now that you're Selling your Home, don't forget about Your attic.

It's hard to believe how many Families forget or elect to leave their Personal items in the Attic.  Attics are generally HOT and cramped, making the desire to Organize and Clear it out an unwelcomed and gruelling event; And if you do manage to Clear it out, where else could You put its contents. So usually year after year, Attics grow into bigger forgotten piles of Memory.

Whatever happened to those Old Precious Love Letters you haven't been able to find? Check the Attic. Remember those Heirlooms, Collectibles such as Stamps, Magazines, and Records, plus your adult son's favorite Childhood Toy.

Yes, the attic is filled with much more than Christmas Decorations.

Whether you decide to sort through the Bags, Boxes, Footlockers, and Cartons before you move or after you're settled into your new home, just get it done. Chances of the new Owners keeping your Things are.... well, let's just say You'd have a better chance at winning the lottery.

Once the new Owners begin to fill up that Attic, your memories will be out on the Curb. So before you forget or neglect to remove your contents from the attic, ask Yourself do you remember Everything you've tucked away and are You prepared to never see them again.

KELLY Very true. People just don't like packing up the things in the garage, attics, basements, and storage unit. So most of the time they pretend to forget.

BILL  How did you handle it?  I would have yelled, "All Right!!" and said it didn't happen very often that people left house warming gifts.  That way they feel less horrible about cleaning out someone else's leavings.

Great information, there are lots of little hidding places in homes, especially old ones that people forget about.

Have A Great Day

Good suggestion.  Oddly enough, I moved into my own home 26 years ago.  For at least half those years, I had looked for an old Vietnam War era POW-MIA bracelet that I wore for a number of years during the 1970s.  I wanted to show it to my kids.  The years wore on, I couldn't locate it in the usual places I thought it was (either my jewelry box, or the cedar chest).

Then just last week, I opened up a little box in the garage, and voila' - there in the bottom under some other memorabilia, it dwelled.  I'm certain it had been in that same spot for the last 26 years.

MYRL  You're a great example. No one wants to lose anything like that. That's priceless.  Maybe not to ebay, but in your heart where it counts.

This is true!  I seen people leave furniture in the attic.  I don't know how they got it up there to begin with.

DAVID  That IS amazing. I don't see it often, but when I do, I understand the reason for leaving it. I wonder if moving companies remove furniture from attics.  What a liability.
