I was listening to Sports Talk radio from the Boston market earlier in the week. WEEI 850 on your dial here is where you'll find some great sports talk. The two talk show hosts were talking about Curt Schilling and his new blog. Curt has a wordpress blog and he talks about a whole lot of great stuff every die hard baseball fan would want to hear or read about, in this case.
What I like about Curt's blog is that he speaks his mind and tells it like he sees it. I also think you will be able to read some great insights to baseball that you normally wouldn't read in sports magazines or your local newspaper's sports section.
After yesterday's game against the Baltimore Orioles he talks about how he pitched and how he banters back and forth with Red Sox fan favorite Kevin Millar. Kevin Millar coined the phrase "Cowboy Up" during the Red Sox run to the World Series in 2004. A fan favorite for sure. Curt describes how he pitches to Millar yesterday and then Millar responds to Curt and Curt posts Millar's comment on his blog. Good stuff for every baseball fan.
I think you all would agree Curt has some great causes he promotes. One which I have experienced first hand is ALS. My aunt Ann McGillicuddy passed away from this awful disease.
For those of you unfamiliar with ALS it is also known as Lou Gehrig's disease. From the ALS website "Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. Motor neurons reach from the brain to the spinal cord and from the spinal cord to the muscles throughout the body. The progressive degeneration of the motor neurons in ALS eventually leads to their death. When the motor neurons die, the ability of the brain to initiate and control muscle movement is lost. With voluntary muscle action progressively affected, patients in the later stages of the disease may become totally paralyzed. Yet, through it all, for the vast majority of people, their minds remain unaffected."
He also promotes Shade a foundation to help skin cancer and melanoma survivors, founded by his wife Shonda.
He also supports Barry Zito's cause Strikeouts for Troops.
Curt also played for the Baltimore Orioles, Houston Astros, Philadelphia Phillies and the Arizona Diamondbacks. Ironically he started off his career in the Red Sox organization by being drafted in the 1986 amatuer draft.
