Many state senators and community leaders have been working on the proposal of bringing a four year college to Everett. With a population of over 100,000 and 670,000 in Snohomish County, and with forecasts of nearly one million, Everett needs to step up to the plate and provide higher education opportunities in the Engineering and Polytechnic field.
Now, Everett's Mayor says he's willing to back a branch campus of the University of Washington in Everett. "A UW branch will create new, affordable and convenient education options for North Puget Sound students," Mayor Stephanson said recently. The biggest hurdle is whether a branch campus in Everett would undercut funding at the branch campus in Bothell. Stephanson pledged community support, including land for a campus and fundraising.
It will be interesting to see what rises from the political sound-offs.
