Young Realtor Questions, and I mean 18 years old young

Young Realtors

Now I'm not too sure if the title was too much of a shocker to those of you. But yes I am a new realtor and yes I am 18. About 6 months in now, I have learned a lot in this new changing market.

Currently I work at Century 21 Beachside, #1 office in Century 21 worldwide and with two of the most talented realtors who just got awarded #1 and #9 in production overall in the World for 2007. I won't say there names just yet, but one is a very close family friend of mine and I would be glad to talk about either. Just ask.

So between them 2 as mentors through the real estate game, I pick up a lot of new knowledge and information from them. I am currently enrolled at Cal State Fullerton for my business degree and I later was thinking to work in commercial estates, once I got my degree.

Now what I want to ask everyone out there is simply, what can I do to benefit myself and stand myself apart from other agents?

I have been watching a show on Bravo, I think, its called Million Dollar Listings, but those 3 agents are the top in there area for Beverly Hills, but its something for me to watch and learn.

I have read a lot of blogs about the best business is with family and friends and just word of mouth of that. What about the internet? So I kindly ask just for your knowledge and input in the RE industry and what I should do to benefit myself.

I also would like to thank our Title Rep, Shannon at Chicago title for telling me about Active Rain; it's been nothing but learning and fun since I have signed up.

Naoma - The show is very interesting and I think it is very motivating to pick up some points and tips from them and learn what not to do as well. Thank you very much

Renee - Yeah my family friend kept pushing me and whatnot. Taking the test was probably the hardest part, but other than that things are just rolling, thats how im paying for school so far. Real estate is a great business to enter especially if you have a mentor or family member along the way.

You are 18 years old. Think you need to focus on learning the business before you start going after the big fishes. You might "know" a lot, but a lot of the real estate knowledge that seasoned vets have is from working in the business, doing large volume and learning from every single deal. Right now, the last thing I would ever want to do right now if I was you would be to differentiate yourself away from two very successful people.

Billy, I really appreciate the comment. I have a lot of new knowledge, but i cant apply much of it since i am so new. And I think that with my age, its hard to take me seriously, so working alongside them is a definite benefit.

Bruce,

Yeah both funny enough, and yes on George being #1 and David Duarte being #9. David has been a close family friend of mine for years now and thats how i met George Barr. Do you know either of them?

Don't forget to get your degree and to have a college experience.  I commend you for getting after it in real estate, but believe  me, there is plenty of time for that.  Making good friends your own age in college will pay off in many ways down the line, not to mention having a degree will put you on equal footing with your future customers.   Good luck!

Dominic, I can tell you from experience that the internet is the way to go. It is great to see someone your age getting a handled on his career that early in life. Too many want to party their way through college. I wish you the best.

Hi, congrats on finding your career so early in life.  Could you talk to my 23, 21 and 19 year old (at least they are in college so I'm not really complaining!).

I don't know if we can recommend books from our own company, but Millionaire Real Estate Agent by Gary Keller is a great book to learn the business. It doesn't matter whether you work for Keller Williams or not; still a great book to read to get some great ideas. Millionaire Real Estate Agent

Hey Cindy,

Thanks for the support. I will look into the book, anything to give me a headsup on how this industry and business works is great for me.
