Jerome and Ginnie Cartier, of Cartier Fine Home Inspections, LLC, in Daphne,  found themselves in the company of Presidents and First Ladies (former, that is) while working with tornado victims who had gone through devastation from the March 1st tornados that destroyed schools, hospitals, businesses and homes throughout the Southeast.

The couple was working in Americus, Ga. which suffered major damage from the storm and staying in Plains which was 10 miles away.  There was one room left at the Plains Bed and Breakfast which was the closest accommodations to the area they worked.

The Cartier's were informed that on Tuesday night there was going to be a church prayer meeting (for the community and Revival) from the Plains Baptist Church to be held at the Bed and Breakfast.  Mrs. Cartier explained, "We were standing in the kitchen of the bed and breakfast around 7:00 PM, and a man with earphones in his ear walked in and directly behind him walked in President and Rosalynn  Carter.  The President stopped and shook our hands then introduced him and his wife.  He asked  where we were from and invited us to join his church prayer time.  He walked on into the parlor with his fellow church friends and began the  meeting.  We were still standing in amazement as they left the kitchen.  We stood  just outside the door and visited with the secret service man , who kept his eye on the door to the parlor where the President and Mrs. Carter were at all times. After the meeting, we mingled and had refreshments with all those who attended.  It was a very special time for us.  A lot of people get to meet a President but we were amidst a very intimate time with him and a close group of He and Mrs. Carter's friends.
