"Corn Days" celebration is underway in beautiful Long Lake, Minnesota

Today and tomorrow, August 9-10, the annual Long Lake "Corn Days" celebration will take place in Long Lake, Minnesota.

"Corn Days" is a two-day festival of food, arts, crafts and family activities in Long Lake, just a few minutes west of Wayzata, Minnesota.  This year's Corn Days festival takes place at the Church of Saint George, at 133 North Brown Road. 

Events at this year's celebration will include entertainment by local bands, including "The Teddy Bear Band & Panda", "Absolute Gruv", "Stray Voltage", "Locklin Road" and "Fire Ants".  Saturday events include a silent auction, Bingo, pony rides and a spaghetti dinner.  There'll be a Sunday pancake breakfast at Saint George's, followed by a parade sponsored by the Long Lake Chamber of Commerce.  There will also be a four-mile "fun run" (sponsored by Gear West) and a 4:45 p.m. Super Raffle.

This weekend the weather promises to be superb, so take the family and head out to Long Lake for an old-fashioned town celebration!

Eric:  While I appreciate how nice... sounds like lots of fun... your post had made "Corn Days" sound... you have not shared with us what it all has to do with "Corn ?"  I am guessing it goes back several centuries to some part of a holiday originally celebrated by your local "indiginous people ?"  Just a guess.  Perhaps some Corn God or Goddess ?

Sorry but I don't have any great folklore or story to attach to "Corn Days".  It's just a town tradition here.  There are a lot of truck farms nearby and sweet corn is a popular crop. 

Maybe next time I write about a town celebration, I'll have to make up a great story of some sort to go along with it

Speaking of Garrison, I just played an orchestra gig with Garrison's wife a couple months ago.  She's a freelance violinist in the Twin Cities. Her sister, Elsa Nilsson, is a member of the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra.

Steve, the change in page width was completely accidental!  I think the addition of the "Global Luxury Property Search" widget was responsible for stretching the page.
