Are you a Secret Agent?

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with ERA Strother Real Estate

Think back when you first started your real estate career.  You did all the right things  -  wear your name badge, pass out business cards, constantly remind your family and friends you were in real estate, and yes...actually network in the community. Why?  Because it worked!   Now, as an experienced, seasoned, sales professional the need to do all these brilliant things are not quite as important. But they are! Trust me, being a Secret Agent only works for James Bond 007!  Not for a successful real estate professional.

Marketing and prospecting are a vital part of any successful real estate career and cannot be overlooked.   If you stop prospecting and marketing yourself your business eventually will also stop.  Determine what works for you and do it consistently, that is the key!    So... dust off your name badge, find that old set of company car signs, refill your business cardholder and tell the world you are a real estate professional. It worked before and it will work now.    Say it Loud!  I'm a real estate agent and I'm proud!

We are doing the "Buffini" training here in Saint John, New Brunswick, CANADA.  They talk about using referral systems and reinforcing your business.

Volunteering within the community always help, since most people look at it as the REALTOR isn't the "all greedy" and gives back to the community, especially when the market is bad.  It always shows compassion and clients love it!  I currently do "Meals on Wheels" and absolutely love it.  It takes 1 hour every two weeks and it's very rewarding.

Denise,   This is so true.  I once wrote a short article that I included in my newsletter, titled:  The Seven (7) Words That Make A Real Estate Professional Cringe.  "I FORGOT You Were In Real Estate."  You've got to remind people every chance you get.  And sometimes think outside of the box with marketing ideas.

It's true we all need to remind our friends and family that we work in the business.  However I had to bag the name tag thing, got tired of people asking me where the bathrooms were when I was shopping.

It's a tough segway from "Excuse me sir where are your bathromms" to "Who do you know that is thinking of buying or selling real estate".  LOL

Prospecting should be every salesperson NUMBER 1 activity ...

I bought 4 years ago an LED Sign from ProLite and I mounted it in the back of my SUV .. I tell you it is a very unique way to spread the word ...

Putting plastic coating signs on the body of your car, with your name and phone # & e-mail address really works for "FREE ADVERTISEMENTS" on a daily basis.  I went to pay my auto insurance, and the receptionist asked if that Yellow VW Bug was mine.  I informed her it was and she said I see that car everywhere in town.  That sold me on it.  This is a picture of my old company and the sign on my car.

in my opinionm if people aren't always talking about their business in some way, they are not proud or truly interested.  Therefor agents need to take pride in what they do, then the conversation will follow.
