Farmington Community Chorus Performs in Free Concert at Heritage Park August 21
The City of Farmington Hills"Stars in the Park" free summer concert series will feature the Farmington Community Chorus on Thursday, August 21, in the new amphitheater in Heritage Park, located at 24915 Farmington Road. The Farmington Community Chorus concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. and run until approximately 9 p.m. Concert goers are encouraged to bring a blanket or lawn chair and a picnic dinner. The "Stars in the Park" concerts are sponsored by Daimler Financial Services.
The 85-voice mixed chorus is composed of singers from throughout the metro Detroit area. They will be joined by instrumentalists (piano, bass, drums, reeds). Directed by Steve SeGraves and accompanied by assistant director Susan Garr, the Farmington Community Chorus will perform a variety of choral music, including pop, Broadway, swing and jazz favorites. The rain-out site for the concert is the Costick Center, located at 28600 W. Eleven Mile Road, one mile east of Heritage Park.

Women's Self-Defense Seminar Sept. 6 at Costick Center
The Farmington Hills/FarmingtonEmergency Preparedness Commission will present a women's self-defense seminar on Saturday, September 6 from 9 a.m. to 12 noon at the Costick Center, located on Eleven Mile Road between Middlebelt and Inkster.
Through a series of close-range drills, participants will learn both situational awareness skills and self-defense skills. The class will be taught by Jeff Duncan, master instructor and fifth degree black belt; his wife Connie, second degree black belt and chief instructor; and additional female black belt instructors from Farmington Martial Arts.
The self-defense seminar is open to all women ages 11 and up. A $5 registration fee will cover class supplies and also a tax-deductible donation to HAVEN (Help Against Violent Encounters Now), an Oakland County crisis and counseling center for victims of domestic violence.

SHOUT!A FANTASTIC TRIBUTE TO THE FAB FOUR AT HERITAGE PARK AUGUST 14
On Thursday, August 14, Shout! A Fantastic Tribute to the Fab Four will charm the audience at Heritage Park with a free performance beginning at 7:30 p.m. Concert-goers will take a trip back in time with a band that "outdoes" all the other Beatles tribute bands, according to local music critics. Sponsored by Daimler Financial Services and presented by the City's Special Services Department, the summer "Stars in the Park" concerts are held in the brand new amphitheater, the perfect setting for enjoying a night of live music.
Shout!is an award-winning Beatles tribute band that performs throughout the Midwest. From their Beatles clothing to their musical arrangements and voices, the group's authentic presentation has earned them two acclaimed performances at the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, D.C., as well as the opportunity to open for well-known bands such as Jefferson Starship, the Lovin' Spoonful, and Mitch Ryder. Shout!band members include Greg Gersabeck (John), John Manier (Paul), Kevin Kogul (Ringo), and Jim Wilcox (George).
Remaining concerts in the series include the Detroit Music Award Winner Jill Jack on August 28. Heritage Park is located at 24915 Farmington Road, between Ten and Eleven Mile Roads. Concert-goers are encouraged to bring a lawn chair or blanket, and picnic dinner. All concerts begin at 7:30 pm and last approximately 90 minutes.
