Get out your compass

Fall is just around the corner.  It is time to start thinking about the trees you would like to plant.  Fall is the time to plant trees in Central Texas.  Starting in October.

Ask yourself:  Where would I like additional shade?  High utility bills can easily be lowered with shade trees planted in the right location in your yard.  GET OUT YOUR COMPASS.  Trees should be planted on the western and southwestern side of your home.  Planting trees along the south and east sides will also help shade your home.

Remember, if planting Oaks, allow a minimum of 15 feet away from sidewalks, driveways and your house!!!!!

DECIDUOUS:  a tree or shrub that, unlike an evergreen, loses all its leaves in the fall.

Plant DECIDUOUS trees.  The best since they let sun in on the home in the winter, and provide shade in the summer when the leaves come back.

DECIDUOUS TREES: Bald Cypress, Cedar Elm, Chinese Parasol, Chinese Pistachio, Red Bud, and Shumard Oak.
