ActiveRain Spammers Get Kahunas - DO NOT CALL ME WHEN YOU SPAM!!!!!!

I see a number flash on my caller ID on my cell phone.  It's a number I don't recognize with an area code I don't recognize, but I get calls from potential clients from all over the country so politely answer.

Being in sales I have made a habit to always answer that little communication device anytime it signals me with that goofy ring.  You just don't know, it could be that buyer for a $1,000,000 home putting 30% down with 700+ credit scores and an income to die for.

It just could be... so I answer and get the following greeting...

"Hi Paul, I found you on ActiveRain..."

My thought right away is that this is someone looking for mortgage services and found me through my AR activity...cool...

So I was very open with talking with the nice lady and after a little introduction the conversation turned to "how can I help you..."

"I'm an associate of Yahoo.com (blah blah blah) and noticed you on ActiveRain and thought you might like to get into the top of the search engines.  We only have room for one originator..."

Fortunately the siginal was dropped before I could tell her that I was already at the top of the search engines...

A second one called about getting business from their HUD site...

A third called, this time I let it go to voicemail, who wanted me to sign up for his MLM Travel Agency.

JEEEZZZEEEE.....

the costs of success. Thats funny you mention that. I have only been on this site for a few days now and I have gotten at least 4 calls and 2 emails. Ya gotta take the good with the bad I guess. I have found more positive then negative re: this site so I guess I will have to deal with the extra calls. i agree, you have to answer if you're in sales. Hope it all gets better for ya!!

I have got them also.  I know most of the area codes where they come from now.  I let them leave a message and then I check them out.

Yes, I've been getting calls like that too, from homes.com and other places.  We should have a box to check if want to be solicited via phone by other business people, or something.  I don't know, but it takes forever to get rid of them.

Paul...

I love playing games with these people. It goes like this:

"Excuse Me Miss...Did you not know who I am?"

Well no. I guess I don't.

"Miss I just happen to own Google".

Really? You do?

"Well of course I do. Didn't you Google us before you picked up the phone"

No. I didn't.

"Oh. I see. Well are you near a computer?"

Yes. I am.

"Type in the name of my company?"

Paul...I could go on...But I think you probably get the picture. To be honest sometimes this crap is the highlight of my day :)

TLW...ROAR!

I get the same calls Paul - mine are either companies selling SEO or leads.  I generate my own leads and do not buy them, so that is always my reply.

Beleive it or not, I actually had a solicitor get upset with me when I told him I do not buy leads.  He just could not believe it.  When you can produce your own and have great referral partners, why would you buy them when anyone in the business knows they are being sold to multiple lenders?

I get the calls also... lead companies, credit repair specialists, seo help etc.........   if i am not busy and in a good mood, i play the game and waste their time because that is all they are doing with me, if i am busy i just hang up...  but it is getting to be very annoying...

Paul, I guess I am not as popular as some. Only a few e-mails so far. TLW, you have way too much fun. Oh Yeah, there is no such thing as too much fun.

Thanks to your post I now understand why I have been getting so many solicitation calls all of the sudden.  I am new to Active Rain and didn't put two and two together.  I have never purchased leads and I do not intend to purchase leads so I couldn't understand why these companies were calling me out of the blue.

Hey Paul, I get a lot of calls while I'm on AR and just recently figured out why. One of the spammers said, "Hi Michael I see you're online at AR..", and that set off a light bulb.

I went and checked under "My Settings", and sure enough, there is a checkbox for "Allow others to see when you're online" that was checked by default. Turned that off and the spam calls have almost ceased!

Welcome to the world of being visible on the 'Net.  Marketers seem to take having a business contact phone anywhere in cyberspace is a license to hit you up.  It sucks, but it is part of the life!
