Almost felt guilty
I had a condo inspection yesterday just outside of Atlantic City. It was an old motel that had been converted into "condos". Now these condos don't have a lot to inspect. 1 small bedroom, 1 small bath, 1 living area, and a hallway that doubles as a kitchen. My clients were from out of state, and only going to spend a few weekends each month there. With not a whole lot to inspect, and the husband being in the trades, I was feeling guilty about taking their money. See not all home inspectors are out for a quick buck. I know that until I actually do an inspection, you just don't know if anything is going to be a problem. I am sure that a lot of people in this situation would have opted to waive an inspection for this type of property. As it turned out, the electrical system was a mess! It was nice having a tradesman as a client. He understood what I was able to tell him. He understood the risk assessment of the electrical system, and how it could be made safer. It only helped reinforce to me, that a home inspection always should be performed, regardless of what type of property it is, or how one is going to use the property. Because until you inspect, you just don't know! And in the end, I didn't feel guilty anymore, just pleased that I helped my clients. Just wanted to share that story with you.
