Del Mar, CA......Dog Beach

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with CELLing Realty CalBRE #01445865

Southern California has a lot of tourists in the summer.  People from all over the world come here, and our beaches are some of the best in the world.  Now, you are here visiting with your dog, and want to go to the beach....what do you do with Fido?  Well we have good news for you if you are in the Del Mar area of San Diego County....

Del Mar, Ca has a dog beach right across the street from the Del Mar Fairgrounds.  Your dog must be on a leash, and you have to clean up after him, but hey that's not a bad trade off for a day of fun and sun for all of you . Just remember that you could be subjected to a large fine if your dog is not on a leash.  Look for the signs on PCH ~ Pacific Coast Highway, where you park that tell you the fine :)

Is Coronado in Del Mar?  And those doggies, they're not on a leash - but what a great idea to have a doggie beach!

Liz- Hi....Coronado is farther South....in San Diego about 20 minutes down the road, then over the bridge, or a short hop on a boat.  And you are right those dogs aren't on a leash.  I have  another picture of the lifeguard warning people to get the dogs on a leash LOL :)

Kathy, I guess it was 8 or 9 years ago now, but last time visiting San Diego, my wife and I went up to Del Mar beach one day.  What a fantastic view as you are coming down the hill and turning the corner towards the beach!  Then, while my wife was at a bridesmaid's luncheon with her friends, I spent the day at the track enjoying the races.  That evening, the guys and I went to a San Diego Chargers game.  What a day!  I didn't know about the dog beach -- certainly a great addition for dog lovers.

Kathy,
We don't have dog beaches here but as long as you clean up after your dog, most beaches allow dogs.  Afterall, dogs enjoy the beach too.  Most people take their dogs early or late before many people arrive.

I can't bring old Roscoe to the beach...he's too old but sand is probably a lot less stress on them for walking..maybe I'll ad a sand mound to my back yard.

On a leash?  That's no fun at all!  I want to run free on the beach and get sand in my fur!  Posted by Willie the hyperactive Labradoodle puppie who just broke into Pat Kennedy's computer!

Kathy, that is so nice to have a dog "beach" in your area. Many areas of the country set up the dog parks to let the animals run free. It looks like a lot of fun for you and your pooch.

Brian- Sounds like you had a great day.....the races and a game what more could you want?  Next time you come...you now know you can do the beach with Fido, and the races are across the street :)  As far as the view....I lived in North County for years, and used to practice driving a school bus around that area....driving down the PCH in the mornings was not only beautiful, but refreshing as well.

Cynthia- Years ago that's how it was here too....but it's funny now all the regulations.  I remember coming home on leave (from Europe) and getting yelled at for smoking a cigarette at an outside restaurant in Del Mar. They were one of the first to ban smoking on the Beaches.  I'm not saying the regulations aren't a good thing, but sometimes it's nice not to have so many :)

Neal- yes the sand might feel good to Roscoe......but as you said his swimming days are probably over.

Willie (what are you doing on Pat's computer)......yes you have to be on a lease, but hey those retractable ones let you go pretty darn far :)  And most of the Lifeguards are pretty cool....they live here and probably have dogs too so you'll be fine.\

Gary- That's not my dog....my dog isn't behaved enough to go to the Beach and play with others.  I think I am going to take him on Thursday though....it's about time he learned some manners LOL :)

Kathy, I loved this, I can't even imagine my dogs on the beach and how happy they would be!  I don't know of one here but Del Mar sounds terrific.  Those beaches that I stopped at in Southern California were all gorgeous!

Hi Kathy, I am at the office with internet, still none at home.  I cry myself to sleep every night wondering what my AR friends are doing with out me.  LOL.  I am processing my first sale since Maria left - ALL BY MYSELF!!  Yes, I still know how to work the copier.

Anyway, I love taking my Hutch to the beach.  At our beach in NC we are only allowed to have them from September through April.  There are too many folks during the summer.  I get so mad at the folks that don't clean up after their dogs.  It is those types of folks that ruin it for the rest of us.  Cute pup, is it yours?

Carole-Hi....you guys have beaches there don't you?  Do they allow dogs?  Next time you come to California you have to come to So Cal and we'll go to the beach :)

Sally- Yes the dogs love it here, as do their people :)

Audrey- That's my oldest daughters dog.....me I have a cockapoo...I wanted a hypoallergenic dog LOL :)

I'm glad to hear that you are managing without Marie, although I know it's hard.  Right now it should be easier but when you get busier that's when it'll be harder.
