Rumor has it I'm easy...

By
Education & Training with Sell with Soul

... to reach, that is.

In my book, I talk about how important it is for a real estate agent to be reasonably easy to reach, phoneespecially in the early years when he or she is building a client database. I've always been very accessible to clients and prospects, perhaps too much so at times, much to the chagrin of my (ex) husband... and yeah, my real estate career contributed to the "ex" part.

But that's not the point of my blog today.

I'm writing to let you know that my reputation for being "easy" has put me in a bit of a pickle on the writing side of my career. Because I like to be accessible, I freely hand out my personal email address and even my phone number, with the full expectation that my readers will contact me when they have questions or just need someone to vent to.  And oh yes... that has happened. Much to my delight, I receive 30-40 emails a day from my readers - often filled with warm words of support and praise (which, by the way, is a great way to get me to respond quickly!)

However, as the Sell with Soul message spreads... I find that I can't answer all the email personally, though God knows I try. My manager has been telling me this for months, but I tell her - "Oh, Inna, I enjoy it! And it doesn't really take all that long!" But, y'know what? She's right (like always, darnit). I am spending hours every day responding to emails and I do have other things I need to do.

But that doesn't mean I don't wanna hear from you! So... I now have my very own Sell with Soul forum where you can ask all the questions you want (or vent to your heart's desire) and not only will you get a response from ME - you'll also likely hear from other soulful types who may (egads) have a different, yet 100% valid, perspective on the matter.

If you've had bad experiences in the past with the, shall we say, intimidating nature of other real estate forums, you'll find none of that on mine. It's populated with a fantastic group of smart, creative, insightful, wickedly funny soulful agents... Just Like You!

You'll find us at www.sellwithsoul.com/forum.

Good for you Jennifer...yeah, we heard that rumor...all the way out here in the midwest...and we belong to the EZ club...if you call our home office and we are not here...you get voice mail and may choose which cell phone to call...me or my husband...and we always take calls...if you had a HOT BUYER or seller with a problem...you would want the call taken and we excuse ourselves and do just that....clients/customers see that as a PLUS !

Jennifer, When I answered the phone yesterday, the agent's voice on the other end said "Thank you for answering your phone!  No one answers their phone any more."  By the way, I really enjoy your blog.

Brian - I know! Everyone on the planet should have the opportunity to write a book and get fan mail. It's a rush...

Kristi - YES!!! Keep me posted on your move.

Shirley - Isn't it amazing? In my first year, I got a ton of my business because I was often the only agent who actually answered her phone when someone called.

Sally - It's good to be EZ!

Jennifer:  It is awesome to see your success!  And to continue to succeed you will have to create some "safe zones" for yourself.  It is difficult I know, but I listen Gary Keller regularly.  As the Chairman of the 4th largest residential brokerage company in the Americas, he has had to protect his time.  As one of the most successful agents in the Austin market in the 1980's you know that he had to make some drastic changes to his "availability".  Again, congrats on your success!  You deserve it!

There certainly comes a point where you have to prioritize your day... it must be difficult to separate the business email from the fan email, that alone must take time (never mind responding to it all)

to quote Mel Brooks, "It's good to be the King"  or in your case... Queen!!

A forum is an excellent solution to all your e-mails troubles and it still makes it easy to keep in touch with you.

Cheers to all of your success.
