New Google Keyword Tool Gives Insights to Changes in the Market

Services for Real Estate Pros with Micro Business Specialist

If you use pay for search advertising to drive prospects to your web page you may want to familiarize yourself with a new tool Google introduced this past week. Called Google Insights, it attempts to give users insights into the relative value of various keywords. In the process, it allows you to understand trends in key words usage over time and geographically.

One of the interesting features is the ability to look at which states are more likely to use a particular keyword, and provides the ability to quickly compare the past 30 days against the past 90 days or past year.

Thus I discovered that Texas was the most likely state to have people searching for the term home staging in the past 30 days and rated at 100.  California was next with a rating of 68. No other state was ranked for the period.

What this suggests is that Californians were 68% as likely to search for the term Home staging as were Texans.

In the 90 day time frame, Coloradians were ranked most likely to search for the term, and ranked 100 followed by NC at 98, Wa at 94, and then GA at 74 and Tx at 66.

In the last 12 month category, Oregon was ranked at 100, with NC at 99, CO at 96, WA at 94 and GA at 84.

These results may reflect local trends and media coverage of the industry, or perhaps the variations in the real estate market.

Of note and perhaps most important to those buying pay for click advertising, it indicates within each category, which related key words have been getting traffic, and even more valuable, which ones are increasing in popularity of searchers.

When searching world wide on the term, Canada was ranked 100, with the US ranked at between 63 and 77, depending on the time frame used. This suggests that Canadians are more likely to use Google to search with the term than is the case in the US.

The easiest way to find the tool is to Google for it. But be careful. You can waste a lot of time playing with it if you are a data junkie like me. But again, if you are paying for clicks, it's a good idea to be aware of what keywords are most effective in your market, and the system will drill down so I can get data from Minneapolis and most other major cities as well as states and nations.

This is my last formal post before I head off on vacation to Turkey.  I had planned on taking down the replay of my teleseminar yestrerday.  It discussed, "How to get more people who view your web site to actually do something".

Despite one malicious negative flem throwing comment from an anonymous gadfly calling herself Sally Stager, the comments I got from those who listened in suggested that many people found it worthwhile.

Therefore, I will leave it up while I am on vacation for any who wish to to listen in. If you have your own web site, or are considering establishing one, you will find it worth your while.
