We've all had them ---- the client from Hell
, or the difficult or inept co-operating agent,
the loan agent who can't close a loan
and the flaky contractors
--- need I say more?
I had a client once, --- a former "friend" (I should have known going in), who I found the perfect home for her. It had everything and more, that she asked for, and the price was right! The house had tiled countertops in the kitchen and one of the small tiles in front of the sink had a crack in it. She rejected the house because of that, stating that it may get water in it and would be a future repair. Her petty picky ness was driving me CRAZY!
She ended up lying to me that she wanted to suspend her househunting for a few months, and betrayed me by going behind my back and buying from another agent. I thought, Good Riddance, and I have a spot for you on my Wall of Shame.
I had a seller who couldn't get his tenants out, posed as the tenants and went to the different utility companies and had the utilities shut off. The tenants, unbeknownst to me, were fueding former friends of the landlord. The tenants were afraid that the landlord would move out of the country without compensating them for vacating before their lease expired. After I assured them they'd be paid directly out of the escrow, for terminating their lease early, they vacated the property. The Seller earned a spot on my Wall of Shame.
Early in my career, anxious to make that first sale, I had a couple who wanted to see EVERY SINGLE HOME in their price range in the nine (9) county San Francisco Bay Area.
They were the first clients that I let go. I couldn't do it. That was tens of THOUSANDS of homes, over several HUNDRED miles. Nope, couldn't service them. Wall of Shame.
I was once showing properties to an investor client in an outlying county. My Broker did belong to that MLS, however, since the lockbox key was used so infrequently, it had expired. We stopped at a real estate office in the area. I went in and asked could they sync it up for me. The Broker denied my request. I thanked her, but before I left, I asked for one of her business cards, for my WALL OF SHAME! Another agent at a brokerage down the street, was more than happy to update the lockbox key for me.
I've had a California Real Estate License since 1989, so I could go on and on and on. I don't have the time or the space, but I have countless other WALL OF SHAME honorees.
Remember always conduct yourself in a professional manner or YOU
could end up on someone's WALL OF SHAME. (The equivalent of the D-List).
Do you have a WALL OF SHAME? A list of clients, and other professionals, who you really would rather NOT work with?
