How many ways can you think of to go green?

By

With the fear that I will have a million responses to a more or less hypothetical question, Have you ever stopped to think about how many ways you can go green during a single day?  I personally came up with a list of 73 things I can do in any given day to be greener.  I would list them all but I am sure no one has the time to read all 73 items.  But what I really found interesting is i slowed down by 5 miles per hour yesterday and found out I improved my gas mileage by 2 gallons per mile.  Today I bought a water container and put it in the fridge so I am not always running the water to get it cold for a drink.  Just simple things everyone can do, right?  Maybe not, The container I bought leaked all over the fridge, Oh Well!  So how many ways can you go green in a day?

Tony,

My Mls decided to repay the aspalt around our association and they cut down all the trees.

I guess that is a high desert response to going green

Hi Tony, I have a few ideas, some I have gotten from other sources, but nonetheless they're good.

Keep a watering can or pitcher near the kitchen sink so that you can "catch" the water you run while waiting on the hot water. Then use it to water plants or fill your pet's dish. A rain barrel to catch your gutter run off is good for watering plants too - Free and it saves Water!

Buy good qaulity freezer bags, and label them - Beef- Chicken- Pork- Corn.. etc.  when you take one out of the frige to defrost- remove the food from the bag and IMMEDIATELY put the bag back into the freezer for the next time you need it. ( be sure to label and reuse only for the same thing to avoid contaimination of meat to veggies) If you reuse them only once, you've cut your waste by 50%.

Buy the reusable shopping bags. If you don't remeber to take them to the store and wind up with store bags anyway, put them to use as wastebasket liners. At least you're not throwing them away into ANOTHER bag.

Hand washing dishes saves a ton on water and electricity over an auto dishwasher. It great for your nails and a little theraputic too.

I'm like you, Don't think anybady wants to read them all. So, I'll end it there. Thanks for getting it going. I can't wait to see others.

Your're right =  it is a lot of little things.  Just turning off lights and not letting water run when you don't need it.  There are lots of things.

How about using a black background for your website or MySpace site- black backgrounds use less energy. Also- unplug toasters, blenders, etc when youre not using them.
