MINOT, N.D. - Brandon Bass hit for the cycle on Thursday as NP Dodge rolled past Aberdeen, S.D., 13-0 in the first round of the American Legion Central Plains Regional.

Aberdeen Smitty's Brendon Hoellein tags out NP Dodge's Steve Jensen during a rundown in Thursday's first-round game at the Central Plains Regional American Legion baseball tournament at Corbett Field in Minot, N.D.Bass, a shortstop for the Millard West squad, led off the game with a home run, then followed with a triple in the second, a two-run double in the fourth and a single in the seventh.

"He had an outstanding day at the plate for us," coach Frank Ryan said. "Starting the game off with a home run kind of energized everybody pretty good."

Bryce Johnston had three hits and three RBIs for NP Dodge. Steve Jensen had four hits and three RBIs.

Tyler Niederklein pitched a four-hit shutout, striking out four for NP Dodge (37-16).

NP Dodge plays at 4:30 today against Apple Valley, Minn., a 17-5 winner over Dickinson, N.D.

PLV South wins regional opener

ENID, Okla. - Stephen Boughe's bases-loaded double keyed a four-run fifth inning as Associated Fire Protection (Papillion-La Vista South) defeated Enid (Okla.) 4-2 in the American Legion Mid-South Regional.

Boughe, who went to third on a throwing error, scored on a wild pitch to account for South's final run.

Kendall Wehrle threw a complete game, allowing two earned runs and seven hits while striking out six.

Associated Fire Protection (35-14) will face Tupelo (Miss.) tonight at 8 in a winner's bracket game. Tupelo (28-14) defeated New Orleans 8-4 in its opening-round game.
