You have just bought and moved into your new home. The most beautiful home on the block with the big tree in front yard and the white picket fence. You have finally finished unpacking the last box- it only took 3 long months, but finally you are settled in! Oh no! You woke up this morning shivering, the furnace must have stopped working. Reluctantly you decide to take a hot shower before calling someone to come look at it. Oh no! Only cold water will come out of the faucet. Sighing you decide to make some coffee to drink while you research who to call. Oh no! When you opened the refrigerator to get the cream out, you discovered it wasn't keeping the food cold. What are you going to do? Feeling very overwhelmed you start to panic. What should I do? Who should I call?
If you had purchased the home warranty plan when you bought your home you would know to call the HAS hotline right away. They would contact the contractor to come out and look at the problems for you. You wouldn't even need to worry about opening the phone book.
When I'm working with buyers I often find that they don't know much about a home warranty plan. I think it's a great asset to have when you buy a home. It helps take away some of the stress when the systems do fail.
The home warranty plan protects the mechanical systems if they would fail due to normal wear and tear during your first year of home ownership. The cost of repairing or replacing appliances and systems in your home can be budget-breaking, and overwhelming, especially when you've just purchased a new home. Even though you had a home inspection, the inspector cannot tell you when the water heater may break, or when the refrigerator, stove, furnace etc. will stop working. The warranty plan is also renewable after the first year, so you will always be prepared for the unexpected.
