The other day I logged on as usual and ventured over to my local listing/ranking of agents. To my surprise, there were a couple agents who had been previously “off the radar” and now hold top ranking on for the locale. How did they achieve this so fast I asked? With a few minutes of ‘investigation’ I had my answer. I coined my own phrase to explain this away…they “Spammed their own blogs”…publishing any random thought or topic that seemed to come to mind. Silly me, I thought the site was a forum for professionals to blog on, at the very least, topics marginally related to real estate. My varied thoughts were as follows:
- Aggressive marketing or manipulation?
- Sour grapes or principled work ethic?
- A reflection of character or poor judgment?
- Freedom of speech or misunderstanding of community focus?
If the US government determines there is a monetary short-fall and decides to indiscriminately publish more paper, this has the effect of devaluing the currency. Personally, I like my “hard earned blogging points” and would hate to think that this becomes a forum of “spamming for dollars”….or rather ’points’. Would Wikepedia have reached its level of notoriety that it has if its users didn’t adhere to a code of quality? Here is where I ask for the opinions of my fellow ‘bloggers’ and active rain constituents. I’m curious to know what others feel / think about this issue?
